been helping families ride out
their troubles for 12 years,
but she says nothing comes
close to the problems she's
seen in the last four months.

White, with Family Ser-
vices of Greater Vancouver,
says the current economic
slump is responsible for the
change. She says many fam-
ilies are shocked to find
themselves in real financial
trouble.

“Money used to be a
secondary problem most of
the time. There'd be dis-
agreements. on how people
spent their money and we'd
work around things like that.

“But now it's the fact that
really are hanging on and
trying to make ends meet.
They aren't just worrying
about their different inter-
ests any more.”

White recently began see-
ing a middle-income couple
with three children.
