A: Maureen, by choice, hasn't made
a movie in more than two decades,
She's been, enjoying a quict life
residing in the Caribbean. “I quit —

have an agent.” Well, the 70-year-old
O'Hara may soon need one, She's
back at work making movies, Specifi-
cally, O'Hara is co-starring in “Only
the Lonely,” playing the mother to

screen performances despite the fact
that they all seem to be variations on
her standard plucky-little-lady spe-
cialty. Will Sally ever branch out? —

A: Watch for “Soapdish,” Field's
new comedy filming in Manhattan.
I've read the shooting script and
though it's obviously premature to
talk about her actual performance,
she breaks her screen mold with a
riotous turn as an actress on a big TV
soap series. Sally has a chance to get
off some snappy, amazingly off-color
dialogue in this hilarious story, and
you'll be seeing a brand new sophisti-
cated Sally.

Q: Doris Day's much-publicized TV
comeback is reported to be in trouble
and won't come off. What is the
scoop? — B.S.

A: [assume you're referring to the
recently concluded ABC-TV deal
involving Doris in a number of new
television projects. Things indeed
have slowed down since the big
announcement. Doris, 66, tells me
she’s not completely satisfied with
the quality of the scripts being offered
by the network's producers. “I've got
to be mad about the scripts,” she says,
otherwise she won't do the project.
Doris is a wealthy woman with
