CASTLEGAR NEWS, Thursday, January 5, 1978 Castlegar Rebels won their last four games of 1977, defeat- ing Rossland Jr. Warriors 7-5; Grand Forks Border Bruins 4-2; Nelson Jr, Maple Leafs 6-2; and Trail Jr. Smoke Eaters 4-2, In Rossland on Dec. 20, the Castlegar Rebels continued their domination over the Ross- land Warriors with the 7-5 victory and outshot the opposi- tion 42-15, Again, Rossland’s Dan Mc- Farland played up to his poten- tial super status to help his teammates, Wut the Rebels’ overall effort was just too much for him, Castlegar's Rick Hlookoff was injured during the second period when he was high-stick- ed across the throat by Bob Godfrey, but no penalty was assessed, i Trail Jr. Smoke Eaters Downed 4-2 Castlegar Rebels Play Four Coach Pezzin was happy to see Ken Schisler finally break oul of his season-long slump and score four goals, “That line of Tassone, Schisler, Makaroff, although not the fanclest, was by far the most effective. “Steve Bozek just never seems to have bad games any- more," said Pezzin. “I'm really happy that Steve has matured as a hockey player and team leader." He stated that the defence seems to be solidifying with Verigin and Wilson teamed up and rookies Dunsmore and Kanigan as the other pair. Dunsmore seems to be improv- ing, throwing out some very big body checks up in Rossland. At 6'1" and 185 Ibs, he’s making his presence felt, Castlegar Mayor Audrey Moore Drops the Puck at the Official Opening of the Recent Midget Rep Hockey Tournament Castlegar's Midget Rep hockey team took top berth in last week's Midget Rep hockey tournament. hosted by the Castlegar and District Minor Hockey Association. In goal for Castlegar was ick Cl Bruce Martin was out of action, recovering from torn hamstrings which he received in a previous game against Grand Forks, Other Castlegar goals were by Bruno Tassono, Steve Bozek and Jeff Townsend, Travelling to Grand Forks on Dec, 23, Brian Verigin got two goals to lead the Rebels past the Border Bruins in front of a capacity crowd. Led by two quick from Wayne Quiring and Don Pozinkoff the Border Bruins took a two-goal lead before Verigin, with only 1:39 left in the period, took a nice pass out from Jeff Townsend and rifled a shot past McEachern in the Grand Forks’ net. The Rebels were without both regular goalies, but Ing- ham played a fine game in the Castlegar goal, stopping 32 shots. By the end of the first period, Castlegar had taken a 2-1 lead on goals by Bruno Tassone and Dave Kanigan and upped it to 4-1 by the end of the second period on goals from Tassone again and Dave Kirby.
