ROSSLAND EVENING RECORD aR O, SMITH, Published every veitey (except Sunday) and Weekly DAILY: One Yur im Advance Sis moutis Onc Month. By Carrier by the V Bingle copy WEEKLY: One Year, in advance.. Six months, in advance. Bingle copy, THURSDAY, JULY 7, 1897. The Recorp, in establishing the fact that Dr. Alexander J. Mclvor-Tyndall’s mind reading is a fake pure and simple, will not lessen his audience or damper the enthusiasm of his desciples, for people wi.l go further and pay more to see a fake and be fooled than they will to see anything real. Mr. Tyndall can no more read a mind than he can fly, and none know: it so well as himself. The test last night at the Central hotel was fair, and a failure. He, as we stated yesterday, is either wilfully or unconsciously taken to the hidden object by direction of the hand, and not the mind. —_—_—_— The guile of our morning contempor- ary in its acceptance of Dr. [yndall’s exhibition upon the street last evening as genuine is simply surprising. He failed with Mr. Reddin and succeeded only by the assistance of Mr. Combs of the Miner. Mr. Combs is evidently on to his job, as a good large display ad. appears in that sheet for the professor’s entertainment at the opera house, which is to follow. Dr. Berry, who spent three weeks in Roesland with his street minstrele and show, after making a tourof the West Kootenay, told Gen. Warren that Ross- land was the best town in Britieh Columbia and better than all the other towns of Kootenay taken together, which is no doubt true. ing to indicate that it will not continue to be 80. ——— The constant rain and cold weather here at this time of the year is surpris- ing, not only to the new comer, but the old timer. A few days of warm sun- shine would inspire a feeling of energy and enliven all branches of business. EXCITEMENT IN ALASKA. Cerrespondent from Circle City Tells of High Wages on Klondye. According toa letter in the Alaska Mining Record from a correspondent in Circle City, brought down. on the steamer Queen to Seattle, the entire dis- trict has gone crazy over the recent dis- coveries in the Klondyke. The letter says that wages in Circle City are $12 per day, owing to the scarcity of, men, the rich finds having almost depopu- lated the town. Dogs are quoted as being worth from $75 to $300 each and hard to get. ‘‘Much excitement,” says the Record, “prevails all through the Yukon district over the Klondyke dis- coveries and all kinds of stories of the riches there are told, many of which Mr. Hayes says are true.
