NEWS STAFF Believe or not , Castle- gar’s infamous shopping mall is on the way. Castlegar will hold a sod-turning ceremony Monday, to kick off con- struction of the Southcen- tre Shopping Mall. The mall, located across from Blue Top Burger, is being built by the Medicine =~ Rick Holdings Owner Rick Filanti says leasing contacts were tobe | finalized this week. “I’m not worried about (the leases) so much as I'm worried about the plans and the final design,” Fi- lanti said. “We want to make sure that it looks nice,” he added. “We want to make sure everyone is happy. Make sure that the tenants are pleased, that the city is pleased, and right now it looks like everyone is hap- py.” The mall will occupy at total of 65,000 square feet and will be built in two stages. The estimated cost of the shopping centre is $5 ion. Depending on the weather, Filanti hopes to have the first stage of the mall completed in March 1993.
