That means, including a $20,600 tax-free expense allowance, most MPs will earn at least $82,700 in 1990. According to Statistics Canada, the average annual income for Canadians late in 1988 was $23,709 The raises for members of Parliament are automatic each. year, the amount determined under federal law by a complicated formula that in- cludes:cost of living and other figures. Inflation averaged five per cent through most of 1989 Prime Minister Brian Mulroney is the highest-paid MP, earning $153,700 in 1990, up from. $148,500 in 1989. Speaker John Fraser and cabinet ministers will get $130,100. Opposition Leader John- Turner gets the same amount New Democrat Leader Audrey McLaughlin gets the biggest raise in 1990.
