Teck Corp. profits double VANCOUVER (CP) — Teck Corp. of Vancouver says its profits for the first six months of its fiscal year more than doubled over the same period last year. Net income for the first two quarters of this year totalled $31.6 million or 39 $13.2 million or 12 cents a share in the same period last year. Revenues increased to $112 million from $95 million. For the quarter ended March 31, profit amounted to $14.5 million or 18 cents a share, up from $6.7 million or six cents a share in the 1987 quarter. Revenues totalled $57 million, compared with $47 million last year. The Vancouver mining company attributed the rise in earnings to the David Bell Mine at Hemlo, Ont., where gold production for the year so far is 89,000 ounces, nearly double the same period last year, and to higher copper and zine prices. Meanwhile, Cominco Ltd.'s year-old subsidiary, Cominco Resources International Ltd, lost $2.1 million or seven cents a share in the first quarter of 1988. There were no comparable figures for the previous year. Cominco Resources was formed by a stock offering last year to exploit some of Cominco's more promising international prospects. The company earned $2.5 million from its 76-per-cent share of the Buckhorn gold mine in Nevada. Gold pro- duction was reduced by poor winter weather and by treat- ment of lower grade ore. The company reported ex- ploration expenditures of $3.1 million on gold and base metal projects, $1.8 million of it in the U.S. Other explor. ation took place in Turkey, Europe and Latin America. Cominco Resources’ net cash on hand dropped by $3.1 million to $32.2 million, the company said in a release. @ SELKIRK COLLEGE CASTLEGAR CAMPUS Invites applications for the position of ISSIONS & RECORDS OFFICER sstul candidate will maintein student record authenticate and prepare student transcripts provide receptionist duties, perform student follow-up and maintain course applications and registrations Applicants should have High Schoo! graduation with one to two years of curate typing ot knowledge of computerized student records system. and ac m.
