6 PREVIEW Wednesday, November 18, 1992 PLAN OF THE WEEK Wednesday, November 18, 1992 PREVIEW 7 SATURDAY MORNING/AFTERNOON LISTINGS - NOV. 21 ‘Narrow lot starter home Making use of all available space, the designer has shown how to create spacious living areas with a minimum of total square footage — making this home not only comfortable but affordable. An interesting stair layout leads from the entry foyer to the living room where a decorative half wall separates the areas but leaves open air space creating a more spacious feeling. A bayed out front window brightens the area while a cozy fireplace will add warmth and atmosphere to the room. Open to the living room, the good sized dining room is also well lit by a large side window and will ac- commodate a good sized dining room set. The kitchen is practical ‘and workable. A small half-circle table could sit in the corner for a dozy breakfast area — relax and enjoy your morning cup of coffee over- looking your sundeck through slid- ing glass doors. The sundeck will also be a great place for barbecuing in the summer. Bedrooms two and three share a three piece bathroom while bed- room three features a sloping ceil- ing and larger area. Plans for design No. H-2-3-612 are available for $222 (set of three) and $23 for each additional copy. Saver sets are available for $275 (set of five) and $314 (set of eight). That’s the perennial dilem- ma of Canada’s Genie Awards, which air Sunday night, Nov. 22, on CBC. Hosted by big John Candy, “The 13th Annual Genie Awards” will provide the big- gest exposure that many of the nominated films ever get. Al- though some have been iad Peter Weller screened at prestigious events such as the Cannes Film Festi- val, Canadian movies often play in small art-film houses or get only limited runs at the big theatre chains. So limited is the exposure for Canadian movies that the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, the organizers of the Genie Awards, orga- nized a national fall tour of the nominated films. Topping the nominees list is “Naked Lunch,” a bizarre cre- ation from David Cronenberg about an exterminator hooked on roach poison. Based on the 1959 surrealistic novel by Wil- liam S. Burroughs, it stars Pe- ter Weller as Bill Lee, who journeys into a world haunted by toys and monsters. “Naked Lunch” has 11 nominations. Runner-up in the nomina- tions derby with 10 Genie nods is “La Sarrasine,” a French- language film about murder and mayhem that revolves around a Sicilian immigrant to Montreal. “Leolo,” about a French Canadian father’s ob- session with his son’s bowel movements, and “Being at Home With Claude,” about a police investigation into the murder of a male prostitute, have nine nominations each. “Solitaire,” an Edmonton film about former school- mates who meet in a truck stop 20 years after high school, has four nominations. e The Genie Awards will butt heads with a U.S.- miniseries. “Deadly Matrimony,” air} and 23, on CTV, dra the true story of an insecure girl who becomes the mistress and later the wife of a lawyer with clients in the Chicago mob. Treat Williams plays the lawyer, and Embeth Davidtz portrays his wife. Brian Den- nehy plays a policeman who investigates her murder when her body is discovered in the trunk of a car pulled from the bottom of a canal. e On Sunday, Nov. 22, CBC airs the Eastern and Western Conference finals of the Cana- dian Football League.
