West Vancouver's Terry
Jacks, whose Seasons in the
Sun is one of the best-selling
songs of all time, is gunning for
an imposter who is touring the
US. billing himself as “the one
and only Terry Jacks.”

“I thought it was funny
when I first heard about it a
year ago,” Jacks said today.
“But I don’t think so any more.
I'm going to get that bastard.”

What changed Jacks’ mind
were things like an unpaid
$1,000 hotel bill in Philadelphia
and a 15-year-old girl in Mary-
Jand who was left with a broken

heart and a $500 rubber check.

Both were the work of the
fake Jacks, but the real one had
to contend with phone calls
from the irate hotel manager
and the outraged father.

“This is not only a ripoff,
it’s hurting my reputation,”
Jacks said. “Next time he sur-

faces I'll have the ‘law on him.”:

The problem arises from
the fact that although Jacks has
sold a lot of records, he's
practically unknown as an in-
person performer.

He's only appeared once in
the U.S. and his albums weren't

There is always something
special about the phrase, “I
knew them when" and this
could well be what music lovers
will be able to say. about two
talented performers presently
appearing nightly at the D-Bar-
D, who could well find'a place
among the top Canadian talent.
» J. J. Garnett and Moe
Brown met in their teens when
they lived in Nova Scotia, At
that’ time. they played for
church groups, local jamborees
and any worthwhile organiza-
tion. There was good talent in
fhe area and they learned from *

Moe is the main guitarist,
while J. J. is the vocalist. J. J.
also puts together his own
lyrics and music but is quick to
point out it is Moe's special
talent with the guitar that

w—helps him get his song inte the

sound they feel is theirs.

Their music varies from
graffiti rock, country and the
music that is recognized im-
mediately as Maritime. On the
average, J. J. says, they play 15
te 20 per cent of their own
music but it is the mood of the
crowd that dictates what they
actually play each night.

In the early days they
formed several bands and went
broke with them all. They call a
10-day appearance at Expo '67
with the Nova Scotia Play Boys
as their first break, followed by
the release of an LP. It didn't
sell that well, but J. J. says it
did give them some i

guitar player.

They felt they were very
successful in the Maritimes but
the band couldn’t travel out of
the area because of the respon-
sibilities of some of the mem-
bers, so J. J. left on his own in
March of 1976 and it was back
to Toronto for him.

In June of that year he
joined 8 booking agent in
Manitoba and things were
going very well. Moe joined him
in the fall of that year-to play
bookings in Western Canada,
