I had to miss Retiree's Day at the Upper course this week. I, along with several other regulars attended a funeral. Meanwhile, a group of 42 teed off before 9 a.m. Romeo De Blasio and Bart Dudley ran things this week and gave out seven balls. In the low gross category, Zeke Clements came in with a 41. Reg White took least putts with 12 and was closely followed by Bob Walley with 13. Red lus took the longest putt with a 6'2" putt on number nine. Ernie Primeau took three putts on number four while Moe Gilbert took four on number eight. Barney Boyzhuik needed 10 strokes to get down on number one. Next week Al Turner and I will be in charge as we start September, the last full month of golfing at the Upper Course. Stray leaves make looking for shots pretty tough after that. Last Sunday 30 dedicated men and women changed the dingy (from smoke etc.) tiles that made up the Legion hall ceiling. Everyone sat down to a fine lunch at noon and the last tiles were painted and back in place around 3:30 p.m. and we all sat down for refreshments. Then we had supper. The funeral I went to was for Hedy Traschel who died Aug. 24. She was a member of the Ladies J\uxialllary and was loved and respected by all. The Legion ladies formed a guard of honor at the church and the pall bearers had several members amongthem. I got a call from Doug Buhr during the weekend and he says the Warriors are beginning to get organized and he looks forward to a good season. Lloyd McLellan is back behind the bench. He expects most of the boys back who played so well for the Warriors last year. And with that, we'll say, until next time!
