Even within the Christian faith there are many varied faiths or denominations, not to mention the world religions outside the Christianity. So what can Paul mean when he asserts there is but one faith? In the context of this statement the apostle is giving us grounds for endeavoring to maintain unity and peace in the church. Church unity is not something that can be humanly created. It is rather, something that already exists. It is the work of God's Holy Spirit. Paul has already stated that there is but one body. That body is the church, made up of all those who acknowledge Jesus Christ as the one Lord and Savior. Christ is the Head of that body. Those who belong to Christ are also adhering to one faith. That faith is the faith referred to in Acts 6:7 where we read, “a great company were obedient to the faith.” The faith reference here-obviously is that message of truth concerning Jesus Christ, the Messiah and Sa- viour, whom the apostles preached. We are told in Galatians 1:23 that after the persecutor Saul was con- verted and became the mightly McPhillips passes away J.R. “Jack” MecPhillips of Prince George died at his summer home in Robson at the age of 83. He was predeceased by two chil- dren, an infant son in 1945 and Bob in 1982. He is survived by his wife, Connie; son, Clark; and Arlene of Tiel, Queen Charlottes. There will be no funeral service by request and flowers are greatfully declined. Those wishing, may make donations to the charity of their choice. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements were under the direction of the Castlegar Funeral Chapel. it & Pew apostle Paul, that he “preached the faith he once sought to destroy.” It is this body of doctrine taught by the apostles that is referred to in Jude 3, “Earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” This then, is the one faith referred to by Paul. There is an emphasis on this faith’s singularity, completeness and finality. Notice that Jude said it was once delivered to the saints. That means that the revelation that God gave to the apostles concerning His Son and the gospel was full and complete. We have the faith's full disclosure in the pages of Holy Scripture. Nothing need be added to it. John says in his first epistle, chapter one, verse 3, “Tht which we have seen and heard declare we unto you.” Peter further declares in I] Peter 1:19 that a more sure word than even an eyewitness experience of God's glory, is the inspired Bible. What the apostle Paul is plainly declaring then, in Ephesians 4:5, is that all those who adhere to the apostolic faith, that is, those who believe it and practise it, are mem- bers of the true church. If we feel that the Biblical record of Jesus Christ and the apostolic teach- ing is insufficient truth; if we feel it need be added to by some subse; quent revelations from God, then w¢ are simply not holding to the ong faith. The apostle Peter proclaimed; “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is no other name under heaven given to men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12) { Jesus said, “I am the way, thé truth and the life. Nobody can come to the Father except by me.” Hy Do you believe that? Wearing any particular denominational label will not guarantee anyone a home in heaven. But holding to the faith will. Go to the Bible. Read the teaching of the apostles. Embrace Jesus Christ and the teachings concerning sal- vation through Him. Through faith you will then be a part of the one true church.
