Funeral services were held Friday from the United Church Hall in Nakusp. Born Oct. 22, 1932 in Raymond, Alta, Mrs. Yano married at Picture Butte, Alta., * first residing at Rosemary, Alta,, then moving to Nakusp in Mrs, Yano was a member of the Pentecostal Church in Nakusp and assisted with Girl Guides and Brownies in that community, She is survived by her husband, Sam; two sons, Larry and Rickey; two daughters, Joyce and Arleen, all at home. Also surviving are Mrs. Yano's mother, Mrs. Tochiko Takeda in Japan; two brothers, Hiro Takeda of Rosemary and Michitoshi Takeda in Japan; two sisters, Mrs. Albert (Fus- ako) Ohama in Alberta and Mrs. Mark (Shag) Ando in Vancouver. Pastor R. Daum officiated at the service during which “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “Amazing Grace” were played. Burial was in Nakusp Cemetery with the Castlegar Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Silverton Girl Named Among Victoria Grads Donna Mae Wright of Silverton is one of the grad- uates of the 10th annual Convocation of the University of Victoria receiving her Bache- lor of Education Degree second- ary curriculum specializing in physical education and English. Donna received her ele- mentary schooling in Silverton and her high school education in New Denver where she was the recipient of the New Denver- Silverton Communities Bursary Award on the completion of her grade 12. Donna has received an appointment with the Port Alberni School District to teach in the A. W. Neill Junior Secondary School. Bell-Raponi Wedding Vows Exchanged in St. Rifa’s al Double Ring Ceremony Luisa Raponi entered St. ‘Rita’s Catholic Church on the arm of her father to the background music of the Song of India by Schumann followed by Richard Wagner's Bridal Chorus when, on May 19, she became the bride of Danny Lloyd Bell. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sabatino Raponi of Castlegar, and the groom the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Bell of Bassano, Alta. Rev. W. Harrison offi- ciated at the double-ring ceremony with white baskets of blue and white flowers decora- . ting the church, creating a spring theme. During the signing of the register, the organist played Ave Maria by Schubert, with the couple leaving the church to the strains of Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet. The bride wore a floor- length gown of peau d’elegance with a wedding ring collar, long puff sleeves with deep five- button cuffs, Lace adorned the front of the dress which was enchanced by a row of dainty buttons down the full front. Her long veil was secured by a white lace-edged Juliet cap. She carried a white basket of yellow roses, daisies and baby’s breath. ‘Parent-Teachers Night Held By Lutheran Sunday School Tuesday of last week saw ” the first parent-teacher night held in St. Peter Lutheran Sunday School. The evening was a great success thanks to the 48 pupils, teachers, parents and friends that attended. “The Young Lutherans Group” acted out a drama called “The Mustard Seed”. This was followed by the “Ten Commandments” and _ their meanings which each child took part in reciting. Perfect attendance certifi- cates were issued, as well as gold year pins. Blue and white streamers and bells decorated the Nordic Hall in Kinnaird for the reception where, set behind the head table, was a big heart of flowers bearing the names of the bride and groom. Assisting in the receiving line, the bride’s mother wore a long powder blue polyester gown and a corsage of yellow roses. The groom's mother chose a long gown in a mauve, pink and purple floral print. Her corsage was of pink roses. Long Time Silverton Resident A long-time rosident of Silverton, Samuel Warren Nol- son, 86, died Inst Thursday in Trail Regional Hospital, Funcral services were held Saturday from the United Church in Silverton. Born July 22, 1886, in Brooksfield, N.S., Mr. Nelson came to B.C, In 1804 to Sandon where he was employed by CP Rail. Marrying in Revelstoke in 1922, he took up mining and resided continuously in the Silverton area. io Mr. Nelson retired at the age of 75 when he was employed with Western Ex- ploration at Standard Mines. He was a charter member of the Nakusp Knights of Pythias Lodge in 1907 and a member of the KP Lodge of il. Mr. Nelson was prede- - ceased by his wife, Margaret, in 1969 and one grandson, Brian, in November of last year. He is survived by three sons, Avard of Invermere, Gordon of Silverton and George of Kaslo; four daughters, Mrs. W. (Mary) Graham of Kimber- ley, Mrs. D. (Margaret) San- tano of Nakusp, Mrs. R. (Frances) Stevenson of Kimber- loy and Mrs. K. ine Biennerhassett of Calgary; 23 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Pioneer Mrs. M. Funeral service for west- ern Canadian pioneer Mrs. M. Beatrice Forsythe, 91, was held at Turner Memorial United Church June 13 in New Denver. She was born Beatrice Broadfoot at Birdtail, N.W.T. Jan. 24, 1882. Her parents came west from Ontario, crossing the Red River when the ‘railway only came as far as Fort Gary. She was one of the first pioneer children born west of Winnipeg. The following year the province of Manitoba was formed. She was a leader of Turner Memorial United Church in New Denver for many years and remained an active mem- ber. Mrs. Forsythe is survived by her son Quintin of New B. Forsythe Dies “Denver; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Newbern of Spokane, Wash. and Mra, Carmen Ste- wart (Leila) of Cheny, Wash.; four grandchildren, Dawn, Gini and Sandy Forsythe, and Margaret Ann Stewart; two brothers, Watt Broadfoot of Winnipeg, Man. and Edward Broadfoot of Falkland and several nieces and nephews. James Aird ils Honored by Area Residents A surpriso picnic supper + was held last Thursday in New Denver Centennial Park when residents from Now Denver, Silverton and surrounding areas turned out in number to bid farewell to Corp, James Aird of the New Denver RCMP detachment who is being transferred, Corp. Aird has been stationed at New Denver for the past five years and has spent much of his free time organizing baseball teams and coaching, When this season was over, he organized lacrosse and played a major role with the hockey teams. Corp, Aird is married with four sons and one daughter. At the picnic Mrs, Aird and her daughter, Karen, were presented with corsages, Corp. Aird was presented with a plaque by Walt Thring on behalf of the New Denver, Silverton and surrounding area for his work with the young people in sports. The Airds, who will bo making their home in Asherolt, were also presented with a Vilas maple chair for their dining room suite. They will be leaving at the end of June. Corp.
