As I promised last week, I
can now give you a little
better picture of the
preparations for Rossland's
annual extravagaza, Golden
City Days.
This event will start
Thursday, Sept. 9 and
continue for four days.
There will be something for
everyone in this year's
ambitious program.
The crowning of the Queen
will kick off the celebrations
and the Credit Union barbet?ue in Esling Park will
cap three full days of activities. The youngsters are
going to be much in
evidence if the programs
slanted towards young
soccer players and their sl<r
pitch playing counterparts
go ahead.
Actually the soccer is set,
but the sl<rpitch proposal
has yet to be finalized. The
former will occupy the
grounds at Jubilee while the
softball is expected to take
over Cook Avenue Park.
Then there are the cycle
races including one set for
the Northport-Deep Lake,
Wash. area to help stimulate
fan interest among our

The Gold Nugget Saloon
will be open for business
again this year as will the
Warriors' lounge and bar. A
third beer garden was offered to any organization
that could handle it but
there were no takers. The
work and cost factor of the
one set up and run by Local
480 has scared most
organizations.
I approached the Retirees'
Curling Club but the
response was quite · cool as
they are committed already
to supply manpower for
some games of chance to be
held in the main arena.
The Lions Club will again
operate the kiddies games in
the area behind the
SuperValu, so their manpower facilities will be
stretched pretty well.
The usual fireworks
display run by the city fire
department will go on as
scheduled. The necessary
ammunition for an event of
this kind are on order according to committeeman
Jim Albo. The fireworks
display will benefit from a
$250 donation from a
Castlegar business.

expected to draw the usual
group of enthusiasts and all
participants will get Tshirts, in short, everyone
taking part in the Grind will

various organizations and
businesses from all over the
area will set up shop in the
main arena. It is understood
that the Fall Fair exhibits of
garden, cooking and canning produce will take place
in the curling rink along
with another art exhibit as
was appreciated by many
last year.

Requests for TV coverage
have been received and a
good showing of the different events will be forthcoming. The committee
would like a good picture of
this year's Queen's Pageant
for a brochure to be put
together for 1983's
celebration.
The Credit Union steak

Esling Park on Sunday
afternoon and it is hoped the
40 tables will be available to
those who enjoy this fine
outdoor meal.
It has been drawn to my
attention that a mixed
softball tournament is
planned for Centennial
Park. More on this when we
know more about it. The
mixed tourney is along the

lines of the one Cominco ran
