The build- ing was slated for demolition almost three years ago when The Langham Cultural Centre‘ will be providing a wide range of events in its first summer of operation. The gal- leries are booked with a new show every two weeks with local artists such as Al Bain and Lynn Mauser-Bain, Phyllis Margolin, Tom Holt, Nick Mei- jor-Drees, the Slocan Valley Guild, Richard Taylor, Harvey Armstrong, Sandy and Pamela Stevenson and Jim Pettry. Michael ‘Guthrie the structure of the building, found that it was worth saving, and initiated a movement for the Langham’s restoration. The building was pur- chased and the Langham Cul- tural Society was formed to spearhead the actual renova- tions. The society generated a - great deal of enthusiasm and support from local residents, many. of whom. have buted ‘cointless hours or, energy, and talents. Foremost among these were Fred Hiigli, Mike and Dare Guthrie, Don Evers, Allan Dobie, Gerald Robinson, Pat and Jackie Bowyer, Fern Van Horn, Barbara Scrivens, Arlet- ta Stephens, Allan Davidson, and Linda Kewen. WEATHER on the weekends will feature per- formers from various parts of Vandals are Warned Of Dangerous Game. Vandalism is hitting the West Kootenay, but there is one type that can. hit the van- dals back. ‘ Maine'eeranile insulators on high-tension lines can explode if broken with a rock, according to West Kootenay Power and Light, and children throwing the stones can be seriously ‘burt. When an insulator is brok- en, the 60,000-volt line can touch the pole, grounding it and causing a massive surge of power. This can cause the re- mains of the insulator. to ex- plode, sending flying shrapnel 100 feet. } “They can explode like a small bomb,” WKP&L- district supervisor Stan Foster said last Thursday. “They can really in- jure anyone close by.” Armed Robbery At Private Home Investigated ‘An armed robbery, which took place approximately. 8:10 p.m. Monday evening at a private residence on Park Road, is presently being inves- tigated by local RCMP. A male, discribed as ap- proximately five foot eight, with a nylon stocking over his head and wearing blue jeans anda green plaid logger’s shirt, walked into the residence ‘de- ~ manding drugs. ‘The house was occupied at the time by an adult female.
