The final score of the first exhibition game for both teams was 6-5 Trail as about 200 spectators looked on at the Community Complex. “We lost our sharpness,” said Rebel coach Daryl Weir after the game Friday night. “Things that were going well for us in the second period seemed to désert us.” Darey Erichuk staked Trail to an early lead at the 12:25 mark of the opening period on\a play set up by John Stanley and Pat Tamrole. Trail led 1-0 after one period. The Rebels erupted for five second-period goals.Keith Semenoff got things going for the Rebels after David Green and Donald Greives put him in the clear at the 14:45 mark. Tamrole replied for the Smokes just 44 seconds later to give Trail the lead again. Blue Jays throttled TORONTO (CP) — The Cleveland Indians hit nine singles and pushed eight runs across a bizarre fifth inning Saturday to throttle the Toronto Blue Jays 12-3 in American League baseball action. Coupled with East Division-lead- ing Boston's victory over the New York Yankees, Toronto dropped 8'/ games off the pace. The Blue Jays made four errors in the game, won by Greg Swindell, 17-18. Julio Franco led a 15-hit snowstorm. The event organizers“*Indians attack with a single, double considered cancelling the first day of the event, but held it at the insis- tence of the competitors. Throughout the eyent the competitors were showered with rain, snow, and low cloud. Junior members were watched carefully, and several of the adults cut their race short when they be- came too chilled. Many of the com- petitors retired to the Banff hot springs immediately after the race. Sunday was cloudless, cool and dry. About 60 people competed on both days. Both Shirley and Scott handily beat their competition to finish first in women's 50-plus, and men's 45-plus age categories. Carol has been away from the sport for a year, but chose to enter her age class, 35-plus, rather than an easier Open class on a shorter course.
