House near present-day Invermere.

In the gold rush days:of 1866 the government
‘opened the famous Dewdney Trall from Hope,

Columbia River and Arrow Lakes.

arduous. Today the beautiful Southern Trans-
Canada Highway (paralleling part of the old Dewd-
