The ERYS-! satellite was launched last year to provide a continuous photographic sur- vey of the earth's surface. The potential of the satel- lite is already being realized as the first photographs are processed and Canadian scient- ists are playing a leading role in analysing the results. ‘One task already in hand is the remote sensing of snow pack in the mountain areas of B.C. where it has been difficult to measure the areal extent of. snow cover and the potential water run-off in the past.
