When you pick up the Castlegar News, you're not
just looking at a newspaper that took the major award for
“Best All-Around Newspaper” in Canada in its circulation
category — you're also looking at a newspaper that took
some of this province's top awards for photojournalism.

CasNews editor Ron Norman took two third places.
One in the sports category for his photograph of a rider at
the annual Selkirk Lions Club Rodeo, and another in the
spot news category for his picture of a motorcycle crash.

Freelance photographer Doug Harvey won third
place in the feature category for his photograph of last
year's R brance Day cer y-

And we're pretty good with the written word, too.
An editorial on Steve Fonyo took third place in British
Columbia and was described by judge Frank Rotter,
editorial page editor for The Vancouver Sun, as “a very
human editorial about a very human being . . . the News’
editorial caught the subject in an arresting (word) snap-
shot that shed new light on him.”
