The youth was in court last Monday, pleading guilty to one charge of stolen property and one charge of mischief in relation to last summer's mailbox bombing. The youth, who cannot be named under the Young Offend- ers Act, will not face any jail time, but according to Judge Don Sperry, came close to doing so. “If it weren't for the contents of this predisposition report from your probation officer, you wouldn't be spending Christmas at home.” The youth, who was told by the judge to remove the ball cap he was wearing, will remain on probation for one year, under the Supervision of his probation offi- cer. He will also spend 12 con- secutive weekends at the Santa Rosa Attendance program where he will make restitution for his crimes through woodcutting and snow shovelling. In addition, the youth will start 50 hours of com- munity service work. “Let's not see each other again,” finished Judge Sperry. Inside 3 sections The tree for me? mas Trees are for sale. More than two dozen different exhibits were entered before the court, though much of it was con- sidered highly circumstantial. As well, Crown Counsel entered as exhibits the photographs that were taken of the victim as she was bound and gagged during the assault. A large kitchen knife, a camera, and rolls of tape were also admitted. Two recesses were taken by the court before a sheet of fingerprints was allowed, and a third recess was taken before bank records were accepted. The accused, who-was a young offender at the time of the incident, is still being tried as a young offender and therefore his name cannot be released. The accused is being held at a correction facility in Kamloops, after he broke proba- tion by leaving Castlegar earlier.
