Last Thursday evening was indeed a night to remember, my wife and I attended the Rossland Light Opera Players' production of "We'll Meet Again." When a theatre company can put on a production like this, lasting better than a couple of hours, and there isn't a dull moment during the whole thing, I think we would have to say it was quite a job. Most of my readers will have had the chance to read Nancy's first-class report ( in the Trail Times), so I am not going to repeat names that have already been used, suffice to say I agree with every word she said, right down to the wiping away of the odd tear when it was all over. Her pictures were good too. The whole thing was fast-paced, no lost time between acts, timing was excellent and the solos revealed a whole host of talent that we always knew we had around. This writer would like to see a whole lot more in the times ahead Thank you, RLOP, every last one of you. And thank you, Jim Schuck, for bringing us the opportunity to see this remarkable entertainment. And thanks to the host of people who came to see and went away with a warm feeling inside when it was over. Now to another subject, this one concerns our youngsters who went to Kelowna to play rugby on the past weekend in a provincial championship tourney. The local high school boys who went over there played four games, winning one and losing three. I talked to Rich Chobanuk this morning and he told me the kids have every right to feel pretty good about their performance. They lost a 10-9 squeaker to Comox and in a game against the host team, gave Kelowna quite a battle before going down 16-0. They met Semiahmoo in the next game and were put down 45-0, but just to show they weren't ready to give up they took on Peace River and beat them 1~9. As I said before, the Coast teams have quite an edge on our kids when it comes to rugby, they have high-class coaching and the finest facilities anywhere in the country. This week's retirees day was the first real warm one we've had this season and saw 56 on hand for the contests put on by Jae~ Buchanan and "Chier• Buna. Hidden partners were the order of the day and the winners were, Ray Gariepy and Gord McLaren in one pairing and Bill Dobbs and Pat Martin in another. Other categories were high net and high gross. Gil Lemoel won the net and Carl Osing the gross. Next week, I was informed, Herbie St. Jean and Marcel Proulx will be on deck and we'll play the white tees, low gross, low net and closest to the pin on number five. You wouldn't suppose these two gentlemen might be holding a late celebration of Montreal's Stanley Cup victory? Anyway, thing seem to be be going very well down at the upper course. There seems to be a good steady stream of players and the jobs that need doing are gradually coming on line and geting done one way or another. One real danger spot is one of the weeping willows at the east end of number seven where a broken branch needs finishing off before it falls on some unlucky golfer. The green on number nine should be ready for use before too long. We have a date for our Legion golf tourney, June 28 at New Denver. Next week I'll have all the facts concerning entries and who may or may not participate. So until then I'll just say, 'Til next time, then!
