My fami- ly was the only one living there in winter. My parents were in Castlegar shopping when the blizzard hit, so they were stranded in town. We called on the radio-phone and my mom calmed down to know we were safe. I was the first one to see him. At first I saw the reindeer and thought they were elk, but to my surprise there were eight big reindeer pulling a big red sleigh carrying a large man with a big sack filled with toys. The reindeer were too tired from the long journey in the bliz- zard so we hooked up to the sleigh and towed it home. We let the reindeer rest in our barn and gave Santa a bowl of hot soup and tea. He told us some stories about the north pole and his elves. I took Santa for a skidoo ride. He liked the modern life and the windshields and lights on the skidoo which enabled him to move through the snow storm. Santa enjoyed meeting my- brothers and to see what life is about in Rena- ta. Now he wasn’t too happy because he still had to get the presents to all the kids. I had an idea. We let Santa have a sleep on our spare bed. I took my brothers outside and we found some spare lights, canvas and some scrap met- al. I fed the reindeer, took off the harnesses and covered them with blankets. I went back to the shed and started bolting the canopy and lights on. Then we bent a piece of plexiglass and bolt- ed it on the sleigh. Santa came out of the house and exploded with excitement. Santa gave us all a fast sleigh ride and went off over the clouds joyful to have a modern sleigh. Santa re- turned the next day leaving a simple note: “Thank you my friend for Christmas is saved.” Elijah Fehr Renata, B.C.
