The Victoria ‘Globe, which is a radical ‘opposition ; paper, thinks that. when. the wily Hon. Mr. Carter Cotton, recently announced “in the Rossland Recorp that there ‘would be a session of the legisla- ‘ture on January 4, he was simply _ paving the way to the perfection of a deep laid scheme to hoodwink the people. The Globe says it learns upon good authority that the Government is trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the Opposi- tion and to spring an election on the Province in December. ‘This'is why the Government has suddenly cancelled the voters’ lists of the cities of Victoria and West- minster and brought about a state of things that may practically dis- franchise the electors of these cities, where the present Government knows they cannot possibly elect a single supporter. The Globe calls upon the pecple of Victoria to rouse themselves, be- cause, although the time is all too short, every name should be placed on the voters’ list as soon and as promptly as possible. the Globe says: “Why were Victoria and West- minster only singled out in this can- cellation of the voters’ lists, and why was not the cancellation ordered sooner, instead of at the last mo- ment? “What is the situation? “By the statute passed last ses- sion, the dates fixed for the revision of the voters’ Mondays in and of each notice must be giv “On August 30, Mr. E arvey Combe, the collector-of votes, gave notice that on November 6 he would hold a court of revision jor the reg- ister of Victoria City and districts, “On September 9 the Govern- ment cancelled the voters’ lists for the cities of Victoria and Westmins- ter, two places that at last election returned members in favor of the then Turner adr istration. “On September 9g therefore the old voters’ lists for Victoria City ceased to exist, and therefore that|t list. could not be revised in Novem- ber, and the notice given by the collector of votes on August 30 could not apply to the new list, for Continuing, lists were the first t May and November, revision two months’ quimalt al years of age. ery engineer. ence. and rooms for housekeeping at 17 Le Roi avente, in rear of charges.- A pieces.
