After a week off which I spent in the Trail Hospital, I £eel much better and thought I should make an attempt to catch up with some curling news. The big news is the Ladies' Winter Wonderland 'Spiel It will be held on the weekend of February 1315. The ladies always look forward to this one. It is always an exciting weekend for the girls as they always are very high on the decorations which make the premises look very gay and wintry. Really in the mood is what you get when you prepare to join in this spiel It is without a doubt one of the high spots of the ladies' season. So don't forget hat phone number to get Dorothy Albo, 3625043, and get your rink in for this event. Elsewhere in curling with the ladies, tlieir George Smart Trophy was won by Marg Ro8Se's rink. They are now in the position of having more trophies than they have use for. . Turning to the retirees, they completed play for the legion trophy with the Dan Burnett rink winning and Phil Bateman, Angus Popplewell and Jake Lllburn rinks in hot pursuit. Dan's group with Bart Dudley third, Larry Prough second, Holly Ellis lead and Don Zanussi fifth, captured 15 of 18 points with Phil, Angus and Jake all getting 12 of 18 points. Nelson visits this week and our boys are hungry for a win over this group. All we can say is good luck. I'll be there for lunch and to heckle "Lefty" White. That old chap is still a real good curler. Our boys did quite well in Trail at the over 60 'spiel recently. Angus Popplewell was 4-2, Dan Burnett and Fred Munro wece 3-3 and Phil Bateman 2-4 and in the legion Fun 'Spiel, Jim Schuck took the "A" event with Judy James, Jon and Gail Holm's support. Phil Bateman, Roy Fines and wives Corrie and Dorothy took "B", "C" went to George Beaudry's group from Nelson. On the weekend of February 20-22, three rinks from our club are scheduled to compete in Nelson at the seniors' playoffs. One rink for each 20 club members, and we have over 50 members. Now to the Warriors for a look at the final few games remaining of the schedule. They play Cranbrook at the arena tonight. Then they have five games in February. The Smokies, Nitehawks and Spokane in that order at hoine and Beaver Valley and Castlegar to wind up away. As it stands today they have a 14 point bulge over Trail and there is no way to catch the Rebels. The standings should remain as is. I shall see Cranbrook tonight and if I get the chance I may go to the BV game out there on the 31st. From then on it will be the remainder of the home schedule and maybe a trip to Castlegar for the windup. Playoffs will come after and I hope to see most of them. Before I wind this one up I would like to say a hello to all those girls who took care of my needs while I was in the Trail Hospital They were all wonderful and I would like to say a very real thank you for all your efforts. All nurses are nice but those that took care of me were something special. And a very special word of thanks to Dr. Jenkins and Dr. Wagner for their efforts on my behalf, thank you gentlemen and God bless you all. And with that I will say , 'Til next time then!
