Ted Bristow of- ficiated at the pretty afternoon ceremony and organist Mrs. Marg Peachey provided musi- cal selections. Given in marriage by her father, the bride approached the altar dressed in a gown of polyester satin, styled with an empire waistline, the lace bod- - ice featuring long, full sleeves Sof matching lace and a rounded eckline, ‘A lace Juliet cap secured “her elbow-length veil and she ‘carried a crescent ‘bouquet of ‘pink roses and pink and white carnations. Her dress and veil had been made by Mrs. V. D'Andrea. A single pearl pendant,. . which was a gift from the groom; complimented; the classic simplicity of the bride's gown, Bridesmaid Miss “Shirley Makeiff and Miss Carol Watson wore floor-length gowns of coral polyester crepe, of similar . design to the bride’s, and carried bouquets of white daisies. Completing the wedding party were best man Mr. Mark Zurek and usher Mr. Tom Ehl. A buffet supper was held at the home of the groom's parents in Robson where the bride's mother helped to re- ceive guests wearing a formal- length gown of soft yellow, with empire. waistline and short sleeves. The groom's mother chose a floor-length dress of pale . .yellow, with small white flower print; fashioned’ with empire waist and’ cape sleeves. Both § SHIRLEY POSTNIKORF One sure way to end up in the crackerbox factory is to be a dutiful mother and take your children to the fair, Sometimes I think motherhood is a scrles of shattered illusions which starts from the moment you gouge your finger trying to snap a safety pin on your newborn’s diaper. From there on in it’s all deventt and up the wall. Actually, the whole es. capade was my own fault. I should have known better than.to dress my daughters in new matching sunsuits and my son in his finest jeans, 1 should have attired them in monkey suits and hired a baby sitter-to escort them to the carnival. What is it about circuses that turn sweet, adorable children in- to animals and calm, intelli- gent mothers into raving lunatics? It all started off pleas- antly enough, as we stood waiting in line behind thou- sands of gum-chewing ju- veniles. I took it all in stride even though I was gouged in the ribs and had two toes on my left foot permanently maimed. I have never felt so many pointed’ elbows and knees as I did at the fair, but I remained smiling through- out while waiting our turn the ice-cold Pepsi dripped for the tickets. Even when im — Coping Badly < down the back of my log I was relatively calm, The pink cotton candy which was stuck. in my daughter's’ pony tail didn't - really phase me. I knew it would come out eventually. But I have to admit it did annoy me when that strange little child came running up and tried to cat it, When I tried to correct the kid on his eating habits I had to take verbal abuse from him which was a little embarrassing, He. was, the type of kid I wanted to kick viciously in the knee, but I . had to remain adult for my -own children’s sake. Finally armed with tickets, we headed off to the nearest, safest ride. (Is that all the tickets you get for five dollars?) I was under the mis- taken impression that three children under the age of seven would have a built-in - fear like my own, of any- thing wilder than a merry- | go-round. From the moment, T placed them on the horses they turned on me, Thad visions of waving and shouti T finally located my son in a place called the Bug House, which was aptly named because by the time I ‘got him out I was ready for the real thing. It was then decided that we would all go on the rides together if not only for the sake of the circus-owners but for the sake of my sudden heart condition, I'm not usually a vindic- tive person, but out of the corner of my eye I spotted a ride that I was sure would take some of their feverish desire for adventure away. As I helped strap them in for takeoff I began to have second thoughts. Maybe they wouldn’t be able to hack it, It was too late. We began to move. There was’ an ear- piercing scream and I franti- cally looked at my kids, and realized it was my scream- ing. They were laughing and having a great time. It was a nightmare and. the. only think I can remember was hearing tiny voices singing ‘Nearer My God to Thee’. There is no need to go into great detail about this so suf- ments to them but instead ended up screaming hyster- ically. My “two cherubic daughters decided to switch horses in mid-ride and they and their sun. dresses fin- ished the ride upside down. I couldn't locate my son, who managed to slip off the other side and disappear into the hoardes of people. fice it to say if I spend the rest of my life going to a chiropractor or if the sight of a moving vehicle makes. me billious, it's all their fault. What really bothers me about the whole incident is that after the ride came toa . grinding halt they asked me if we could all go on the Zipper. mothers 8 t whlte carnations and baby's brea!
