Even though volunteers were prevented from phoning ‘and reminding those with appoimtments this ti the van was quite well attended lt was announced during the mecting that the Nelson unit of the Society will be forming a breast cancer support group for those women in the area dealing with the disease, The fund raising campaign in April in Castlegar did not properly get going this year. Even so, trea- surer, Dorothy Martini, reported that more than from that campaign, special events, In Memoriams and maildrops. Considering the difficulties in April, the total is better than expected, and area residents can be assured that every dollar will be used responsibly in the fight against cancer, and to assist those suffering with the discase. If any- one needs assistance or information and has diffi culty contacting a local volunteer, then they will be pleased to help. Volunteering covers a wide range of work....canvassing, fundraising, driving, board mem. bers, committee members, friendly visiting, basic literary tutoring, assisting with shopping, writing letters, bingo, sorting clothing, selling in ‘thrift shops, clerical assistance, receptionist, pancake cookers, candy stripers, video producing and on and on. Some volunteers prefer short term projects, others become very involved in the organization and others run the organization!
