C2. CASTLEGAR NEWS, june; 1280 /Erma Bombeck 1 don't know If I told you or not, but I've been shopping for a ‘'role model,’ and frankly |'m not having too much luck. Every time { find someone | want to emulate professionally, their personal life is all screwed up, and when | find someone who has {hele personal life together, no one has ever heard of e had my ‘‘goal in life’ for ‘almost ayear now. Got It last ‘Ruguel. Up until that time | referred to It as a ‘fantasy,"’ but somewhere along the line ‘fantasy’ became an OUT word and “‘goal’’ took its place. ly ‘goal’ Is to get my body in shape, ralse my consciousness level, go to Hollywood, become:a sax symbol, work for the world peace and '‘feal good about myself.’* bags eu A few weeks ago | saw where Barbara Walters was going to Interview Bo Derek, Farrah Fawcett, Cheryl Ladd and Bette Midler. Merciful heavens! Four Role Models, Four! Surely out of one of them would emerge a person to pattern my life after. | listened carefully. They were all sex symbols, all had great bodies, knew who they were and were In touch with their They were by fans they went, had blg houses with fresh flowers on every, table, faces pretty enough to offset stringy hair, and men who masterminded their every move. All four were at the peak of success and in a state of “mis. misled, preted and misrepresented. Add miserable. ste Yet, on the scale of one to 10, not one of them came in under a&. The only thing I can figure out is that | have been calculating the ‘'10’’ phenomenon on the wrong scale. These women are obviously grading on the “‘curve.'' If they say they’re a ‘'10"’ at the beach, It must depend on how much sand they're buried In, how much water they're retaining, and how many 38 and 48 are around. \f their marriage is a ‘'10,"' it probably takes Into consideration how often their husbands are dating, if they make thelr home together, and what thelr other hobbles are. All | know is out of four sex symbols interviewed, one had a child, one had a husband, one had an understanding mother, and one had peace of mind. | have all four. That makes me a ‘'20"° and still looking for a role model who deserves me. Musicians, dancers Executive elected for funeral service Members of. the B.C. They were accompanied on the pipes by Pipe Major cers put on a potluck supper and concert for the benefit of parents and invited guests, to mark the end of term lessons. - The entire . program, which had been prepared and directed by Scottish dance teacher Andrea Laycock, was held in the McLean School annex, and began with the Selkirk Grace and a dinner, followed by the concert up- stairs. The well-presented and varied program presented not only traditional Scottish and Irish dances, but several novelty numbers such as a Jewish ‘hora’ or round dance for the beginners, a ‘Jazz Age’ dance, and a vigorous Russian — style Cossack dance, based on traditional Scottish airs, and choreo- graphed and arranged by Miss Laycock herself. The young performers included Christine Corrado, Michele Faulkner, Karen Forrest, Kim Harris, Jen- nifer Jefferson, Sharon Kel- ly, Jodie Lee, Heidi Scott, Bram Eccles. organizer and leader of the Golden City Pipe Band and -Piper Peter Laycock, also played a num- ber of stirring pipe duet selections during the fre-. quent but colorful costume changes. ° Invited guests included Mrs. Eccles, and Mr.’ and Mrs. John Charters who, like the pipers, were dressed in formal Highland regalia. Charters was master of cer- emonies for the evening. At the end of the pro- gram, when all of those taking part had been for- mally introduced, Laycock opened her going-away pres- ent — a béautiful desk set, presented to her by her pupils, and Pipe Major Eccles piped in a huge birthday cake for Peter Laycock. It was, like the concert, thoroughly enjoyed by all the company. One sobering note on an otherwise delightful evening; these enthusiastic young dan- cers must find another teacher since Laycock is leaving for Calgary in the fall. ~ EE "JEAN MARSH “CHILLING AND UTTERLY AIR-RAISING.” TRISH VAN DEVERE: MAD A GSH ed EER ANG or TEL AMD HAUS CATH ORIN THE CHANGELING or MELVYN DOUGLAS ... = AY JOEL B MICHAELS Warning: Some Frightening Scenes —~ Newsweek 2 pacer a> ATER ML JOHN COLICOS USSELL HUNTER TH TRAIL + EATRE PH 364 2114 * at $260,000 will get und way ‘immediately to house the adolescent unit tempor- arily in Vancouver General's Health Centre for Children... For the benefit of any of my more Protected readers and/or those’ who | happen to be raising turkeys, | should tell you that turkey Is’an adjective which makes leaser of one’s good name. Perhaps it describes many of us who just gobble and cluck, make feeble efforts at flapping our wings, then strut around the barnyard, chests puffed out like perhaps we were somebody important.
