CASTLEGAR NEWS, Thursday, June 7, 1973 Suspenseful Open Golf Tournament Held Ed Clem Wins Event for Fourth Consecutive Year Ed Clem, left, receives Championship Cup from Castlegar Golf Clob President Jim Bilesky at the Weekend Tourney which this Year is Included in the British Columbia Festival of Sports. wELLE E g : : é Hole-In-One and $100 for Peter Kabatoff of Valley View @ LEGAL By Pete Young The weatherman ~ must. have been listening as he certainly cooperated with us In our Open Golf Tournament, The Championship Flight match was a real humdinger, where Bill Perchudoff watched his lead of four shots slip away. Ed Clem had to gain two strakes on the last hole to tie Bill and this he did with a fine birdie effort and Bill had to settle for a bogey after running the cup. The scene was set now for a sudden death play-off with the combatants on the first tee, Clem drove off and glory be if he didn’t duck hook one into the rough, Out came Bill's big stick and it was almost an identical shot but unfortunately for Bill his ball landed two-thirds of the way up on a pile of top soil covered with dense couch grass. This mound has demoral- ized quite a number of golfers and it probably has a name now, “Bill's hil q Perehudoff chipped out and then hit his third shot to the green running just over the edge. Meanwhile, Clem was in the rough and he hit his second and made the green, Bill still had a chance ag he executed a superb chip shot to try to save par but Lady Luck had deserted him as the ball hit the pin and spun out, Clem lagged up, tap in par and Mr. Ed Clem had won tho Castlegar Open for the fourth consecutive year.
