The ceremony of balloting for a new member was held with the new candidate being installed at the first meeting in October. Born in Denbigh, North Wales in 1911, Mr. Roberts came to Canada with his family in 1926 and settled in Saskatchewan. In the 1930s he came to B.C., working in the Fraser Valley. In 1940 he went to Cominco in Trail, until he re- tired in 1975, with exception of his time in the Canadian Army. After his marriage in 1947 he made his home in (Kin- naird) Castlegar until his ill- ness and move to Langley in 1980. He was predeceased by his mother in 1960, his sister in Surrey 1985 and father in 1986, Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife, Belle; son Ken and fam- ily; two daughters Lynn Hackman and Judy Strom and their families; eight grandchildren; brother Jo- seph and family; and five sisters, Amelia Carruthers, Winnie Pretty, Jean Burden, Gwen John and May Keller and their families. A private family service was held Sept. 24 at Ham- ilton’s of Vancouver with Rev. Dennis Morgan officia- ting. Cremation. Library story hour resumes By JUDY WEARMOUTH . Librarian After last week's festiv- ities, the Castlegar Library has settled down to business as usual. The pre-school story hours for children 31: to five years resumed this week, Tuesdays a.m. with Judy Wearmouth. Parents wishing to register their children should phone the library at 365-6611. Thanks once again to the Breckenridge family and the United Way, the annual book sale attracted a large crowd and netted $174 to be ploughed back into the new book budget. As reported earlier, the grand opening ceremonies were a great success, with approximately 150 people tarping out on a hot day to watch the unveiling of the donors’ scroll and the library plaque and the ribbon cutting ceremony, performed by Jes- sie Donnan, Charlie King, Glady Manahan and Jean Turner, and to sample the cake and cookies kindly donated by Canada Safeway. In an effort to recover some really delinquent books, the amnesty on over- due fines has been extended to Oct. 12. The librarians at Kinnaird Junior secondary and Kinnaird elementary schools are cooperating in making a temporary book- drop available in their school libraries for pupils to deposit Kinnaird Branch public lib- rary books they have not been able to return to the new library building. Conservation office seeks public help The local conservation of- fice is asking for the public's assistance in regards to a grizzly bear which was il- legally shot in mid-May of this year, in the upper Next Creek area near Arkansas Lake. The bear was part of a study group of animals moni- tored by biologists from Can- ada and the United States. It was fitted with a radio collar in June,- 1985 n Priest Lake, Idaho and had travelled back and forth across Canada and the United States border until it was shot near Wall Moun- tain. The radio collar that was on the bear has been re- covered, however, the bear and the persons responsible have not. The United States Audo- bon Society is offering a reward of up to $15,000 US for information leading to the conviction of the persons re- sponsible.
