Preliminary machinery for. the
establishment of a Catholic ele-
mentary school in East Trail par-
ish, was set in motion at Castle-
gar last Sunday by members of
Trail Council Knights of Colum-
bus and the State Chaplain of the
Order, His Excellency, the Most
Rev. Martin Johnson, Bishop of
Nelson diocese.

Johnson reviewed the four ob-
jectives of the Knights of Colum-
bus order and urged his hearers
to learn more about how admira-
bly these objectives are being
realized all over the continent.
Describing the K.C.’s as “the
strong arm of the Church” he
went on to outline some of the
problems facing the Church in
this diocese and appealed to the
Knights for their support in over-
coming these.

“To whom can I go, if not to
the Knights of Columbus?” he
asked.

Of paramount concern among
the diocesan problems, the Bishop
stated, was the pressing need for
an elementary school in East
Trail parish, and he urged the
Knights of Trail Council to ta
the initiative in the establishment
and construction of this school.

An old world art is being trans-
planted to the Kootenays. Mr.
and Mrs. Carl-Louis du Bellier,
well known ceramic manufact-
urers in Europe, arrived in Nel-
son recently. Here they plan to
turn out cerarnics (chinaware) of
both sinyple and luxurious design,
using local clay. A 12-ton electro-
kiln and other necessary equip-
ment have been shipped !from
Germany.

ors have been in the pottery busi-
ness as far back as 1798, also plan
run an art school in connection
with their new venture.
