The 74-mile line will bring the ifrst electricity to many re- sidents of the Cariboo district. One of the new communities to be served is. storied Soda Creek, Scene of many colorful incidents in the history of the Cariboo. Source of power for the area will be the gas-diesel generating ‘plant now nearing completion at Quesnel. An added 3,000 kitowatt unit will .bring plant capacity to over 16,000 horsepower. Cost of erection of the line, building sub- stations and plant addition will be $1,500,000 Commission offici- als said. It is planend to have the line in operation by fall. The present Commission diesel plant at Williams Lake will be closed down when power is availabe at Quesnel but will be maintained: on a standby basis until the new line is fully opera- tional. “The new transmission line is a link in the Commission’s long- range plan to fit the Central In- terior syste minto a huge grid of firm and economical power”, said the Commission’s General ————————— eee Lee Briggs.
