elected by ratepayers and there
are two for Castlegar and two
for Kinnaird, and one for the re-
mainder of the area.

Directors of the Seciety are
elected by members of the Hos-
pital Society, which is on a
membership biyis,. and anyone
who has been a paid member
for sixty days prior to the An-
nual meeting can vote.

Membership is ($2. 50 and can
be deducted for income tax pur-
poses.

Lake, the B.C, Power Commission
announced today.

The 74-mile line will bring
the ifrst electricity to many re-
sidents of the Cariboo district.
One of the new communities to
be served is. storied Soda Creek,
Scene of many colorful incidents
in the history of the Cariboo.

Source of power for the area
will be the gas-diesel generating
‘plant now nearing completion at
Quesnel. An added 3,000 kitowatt
unit will .bring plant capacity to
over 16,000 horsepower. Cost of
erection of the line, building sub-
stations and plant addition will
be $1,500,000 Commission offici-
als said. It is planend to have the
line in operation by fall.

The present Commission
diesel plant at Williams Lake will
be closed down when power is
availabe at Quesnel but will be
maintained: on a standby basis
until the new line is fully opera-
tional.

“The new transmission line is
a link in the Commission’s long-
range plan to fit the Central In-
terior syste minto a huge grid
of firm and economical power”,
said the Commission’s General

have an opportunity to meet one
of the most important figures in
his forest community during the
week of May 18-25, when’ the
B.C. Forest Service, in co-opera-
tion with the Canadian Forestry
Association, holds open house at
all - District Ranger Stations
throughout the province, t

To the logger and lumber-
man, the District Ranger is the
man on the job, the first and most
familiar link between the Forest
Service and our leading- natural
resource industry. To the general
public, particularly’ the travell-
ing public, holiday-makers and
sportsmen, he is often the only
contact between the people and
the complex organization which
administers B.C.’s ninety million
acres of forest land. By every~
body in the know in British Col-
umbia, he is recognized as the
backbone of the Forest Service.

Throughout Forest Conserva-
tion. Week, commencing Satur-
day, May 18, all Ranger Stations
will be open to the public. Adults,
school children, Junior Forest.
Wardens, Boy Scouts, Girl Guid-
es, al are cordially invited to
visit their local Ranger and learn
at first hand something of his
varied duties and what they
mean to the protection and wise
use of our forest wealth.
