He had been a long time employee of Cominco until his retirement in 1985 as an electrical supervisor. During his service in the Dutch Royal Air Force Bill played on the International Soccer team of the Dutch Royal Air Force Bill and his wife Marg came to Canada in 1951 as newlyweds and after living in Grand Forks and Trail settled in Castlegar in 1954, Bill was an avid curler, skier and golfer. In the 1950's and 1960's he was a member of the credit committee of the Castlegar Credit Union. At the same time he was also an executive member of the Castlegar Project Society He was a founding member of the Castlegar Minor Soccer Association and coached youth teams for many years. Bill held numerous offices on the executives of both the Castlegar Curling and Castlegar Golf Clubs. He also held the office of president of the W. K. Zone of the B.C. Interior Curling Association. Bill took up competitive swimming after his retirement, competing in the Master Division. Bill is survived by his wife Marg, 2 daughters, Patricia Jeffrey of Winfield, B.C. and Suzanne and husband Fred Basson of West Bank, B.C., 1 Son, Bill and wife Shelley of Castle- gar. 8 grandchildren, 2 sisters, Nettie (Al) Faunt of Trail and Lainie (Clare) Provost of West Bank, B.C. A service of remembrance was held at the Castlegar Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, July 21, 1993 at 11:00 am Cremation has taken place and burial of the ashes was in the family plot at Park Memorial Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Castlegar Funeral Chapel Obituary Ronald A. Giles Ronald A. Giles of Genelle BC passed away suddenly on July 16, 1993 in the Castlegar Hospital. Ron was bom in Maidstone Kent, England on July 26. 1915 to Albert Edward and Eva (Lang- shaw) Giles. In 1921 he moved with his parents to Vernon B.C. They lived in the Okanagan area for 8 years before finally settling in Trail in 1929. Ron began his employment with Cominco as an Electricians helper at the age of 18. He was promoted to Instrument Shop Foreman at the outbreak of World War 2, where he worked until his retirement in 1976. During his time at Cominco he was also involved with the Kinsmen Club, repairing all of the hospital and clinical equipment in the old Trail hospital and its moving to the new. one in 1954. He installed all of the sound system at the Cominco Arena. In 1960 Ron moved his own family to the Village of Kinnaird. Before Kinnaird and Castlegar amalgamated, he served as an elected Council member for the village, then later the Township of Kinnaird for 3 and 8 years respectively. Ron is survived by his sons, Ron W. (Sue) and Gordie of Castle- gar, three daughters Diane (Gary) of Australia, Elaine of Kelowna and Marion of Burnaby., 4 grand: and 3 There will be no funeral service at the families request. Mrs Bob Waldie (Ruth), of Robson, has just received word that her son Ron Waldie (46) has been appointed to the office of Dean of Academ: ic Studies at George Brown Col lege in Toronto. His twin brother, Rick, is also resident in Toronto The new deal graduated from Stanley Humphries Secondary School in the early 60's, and then went on to take his Batchelor of Asts degree in English at the Uni- versity of British Columbia, and his M.A. (English) degree at Carl- down as a teacher at George Brown, a position he has held for some years, he had a number of jobs, including a bed and break- fast establishment at the Stratford Festival, a partnership in a now defunct art manufacturing firm, extensive travels in Europe, and student councillor at Notre Dame University in Nelson. The new appointment is effective immediately, and he has stated he is anxious to get io work on it at once. Though proud of her son;'s success, Mrs. Waldie says that her only regret is that despite all of her son's expertise in English, he still cannot write a home after feaving work 7.
