East Kootenay in the Fort Steele neighborhood is pushing its way to the front aa @ tnineral section. Dur- ing the past summer it attracted a great many prospectors and some fine locations were made. This. year the rush will be greater than ever. The progress of the country can be seen in the following figures: Up to 1895 the country was very little known aad no attempt had made to develop it. In the sumnier ot 1895 a few Ole Olson. went out looking for trouble yesterday. He ran up against Jobn McNeill and Joe Cooper, who accommodated him up to the limit. Olson met the two in the afternoon ip the Pacific salcon and started out to do battle, but the men were separated ‘\for a time. At night while Ole was enjoying a free lunch in the Kaiser house his two opponents wan- aered in. Ole improved the oppor- tunity to pass eome remarks reflect- ing en the paternal ancestry of the two and the trouble began. It was just one short round. When Olson was pulled out from under his opponents, his face resembled that of an over- “| voiled squash. All three appeared at the police court this morning with Olson as plaintiff. McNeill was fined $20 and coste ani! Cooper was given 30 days in jail in which to reflect over the rocky path travelled by the wicked.
