WANTED - For local Dry Clea- ning establishment - Ohe Expe- rienced Silk and Wool Spotter. None other need apply- CASTKEGAR DRY Cleaners HERE AND THERE WITH ARLEE Paper day is May Day this week. May Day reminds me of an old batchelor-we had for a neighbor in Saskatchewan. He had a Scotch brogue you could cut with a knife, a frugal na- ture concerning himself and was generous to a fault when it came to his horses or dog. But the reason I was thinking of him just now was because of the story he told us about May Day. It seems in Scotland on the First of May the lassies, if they want to be beautiful, get up just as the dawn is breaking, run out onto the moors and bathe their faces in the dew. It occurred to me that any- one trying that stunt in Sask- atchewan so early in the spring was more apt to get pneumonia than beauty so I never tried it. After all I wouldn’t want people to be saying “she looked ‘so natural.” Anyway I have the advantage, I live behind my face so it doesn't bother me. Nothing much exciting hap- pened last week — except of course, Burt Campbell's trip to the hospital. That caused enough excitement to last for some time. Quite an experience! The weather was so perfect all week that we decided to get a gang together and go on a Picnic. Each day was nicer than Near Dry Cleaners Ww 24-hour service on developing and printihg ~ BUSINESS the one before and as the week progressed and the blossoms be- gan to appear, we could hardly wait .for Sunday. Guess you know what's coming yep! Rain! so we had our picnic in the middle of the front room and if anyone even mentions the word to me for a month look out! Right now I Mave to get the shovel and begin to dig the place out. LETTER TO THE EDITOR Editor, . Castle News. Dear Sir:— As chairman of the Funds Cam- paign on behalf of the Castlegar Cancer Unit, I would like, through the medium of your pa- per, to bring to the attention of the residents of Castlegar and sur- rounding districts, the commence- ment of a campaign for the rais- ing of funds in this unit. It is not my intention to set out the need, the urgency nor the abso- lute importance of the work be- ing done by these units through- out British Columbia, and of the campaign bein g_ conducted throughout the province in gen- eral, and in this district, par- ticularly. These factors will be orly too obvious to the péople of the district. The need is as great as the suffering caused by this disease; the contribution must be greater, in order to defeat it. The sole purpose of this let- ter is to advise the district that during the next two weeks a n will be the raising of funds. the intention of this unit to ask for any large contribution, from any individual, but it is our wish to obtain one ($1.00) dollar from every resident in the district. Within the next two weeks a member of our com- mittee or one of the local high school students will be calling upon you for such a contribu- tion. Please help us to help you! (Signed) M. E.
