From its inception after the First World War, one of the Legion's main ‘objectives has been to remind successive governments, and the public at large, of that price, their fesponsibility to pro: tect the families of those who made the supreme sacri fice, those who paid in injuries to body and mind, and see them reestablished at the end of conflict The Castlegar-Robson Branch 170 of the Legion was initiated in 1942 by Ralph West for that purpose and received its charter Feb. 5, 1943 with A.J Cleeton as first president. The construction of the present legion hall was begun in 1945 by volunteers, with recycled lumber from Trail, and opened Feb. 18, 1947 with Stan Horswill in the chair. Over the next 20 years, it greatly expanded it§ work as a service club and in 1967, a Castlegar News story reports the Legion made extensive pr ses amd sales of poppies and wreaths through Vets Crafts of Canada to raise funds for its charities in the community. And that was 30 years ago. What about today? | called Legionnaire Wilt Leduc. He was out with a number of other dedicated Legion workers preparing and delivering wreaths.
