Since he played the roll of ‘decoy duck,”” and won his signal victory by treachery and deceit, there is no such thing as hving with him. The act that should have made him cover his face with shame, has had just the opposite effect upon him. He has ‘bullied’? the mayor and city council into giving the Miner the bulk ol the city printing at exorbitant prices, when they_were virtually pledged to let it by tender. He tried to dictate who should be elected officers of the board of trade, and because he failed, he has since treated that body unfairly. He is all “swelled up” over the success of the paper he worka for, taking it to him- self, when it belonge to the man who furnished the money to carry it over the critical period. . He has treated the Rec- ord unfairly, aud has upon several oc- casions sent his emmissares to our office to plead to be not menfioned in connect- jon with things he should well be ashamed of. It is well near time that the 7 per & of Jand be not ted by ii 1 bh drunken, gambling, licenceous men, and the Record would not be doing right to not publieh the news about them, the same as about other people. It will do right, and show no favorites, not even Rossland newspaper men may expect to be exempt. ——_———— JUST FOR FUN. [By Rraut Larzty.) What's On a Card.. The Rev. Mr. Morden, of the Metho- dist church, called at the Record office yesterday, introducing himself in the usual way by presentsng his card, upon one side of which was printed in modest letters: GEO. H. MORDEN, Methodist Minister. After Mr. Morden departed, bis card waa ited in a - oned for that purpose. It was noticed that the office boy took an unusual interest jn the tiny pastboard but no attention ‘was paid to his inquisitive demonstra- tions, for the editor consideredjhis pre- it I The who is religeously inclined, made some pertinent remark about, ‘as the twig is bent, so the tree will grow,” and pro- ceeded to set up his 1,000 an hour. In fact, those who observed the office boy in close communion with Rev. Mr. Morden’s card thought he would be numbered among those who attended his church next Sunday. But hopes were blasted later when it was dil d that the on the back of Mr. Morden’a card had been tampered with by irreverent hands. It appears below, the word in the last line printed in black faced type being underscored by the office boy: ‘The Methodist Church, Washington St. Services as follows: Divineservice, Sunday at lla.m;7:80p. m, Sabasath School and Bible Class, 2:30 p. m, Epworth League, Monday at 8 p. m. Prayer Mecting, Wednesday at 8 p,m. “Come thou with us and wo will ‘do’ theo show their beauty in the grass, and all atonce the sun, which has been for some time gliding the tree tops, sends & landscape—and it ie morning. The Nelson Tribune saya that in test- ing the efficiency of the fire department of that city the other day the boys ‘had two streams of water playing on the imaginary fire in five minutes. “Not long ago an item ‘appeared in a Neleon paper indicating that the fire depart- ment has deteriorated. On that occa- sion a fire was extinguished before the department reached the scene. Raw from Her Toes to : Her Knees Mrs, Knight, 17 Hanover Place, ‘oronto, makes the following statement :— ly: mother, Mrs. Wright; who lives at Norval, near Doncaster, suffered a summer and winter with Eczema in her feet. She could not walk, and very seldom got any sleep. It became so bad that she was perfectly raw from the toes tothe knees, ‘After trying every available remedy without receiving any benefit, and almost hopeless of relief, she was advised to try Dr. Chase's Ointment. She has altogether used 8 boxes since com- mencing, but with the: happiest results, for she is now completely cured. There is but one scar on one of her feet, a memento of her fearful suffering condi- tion. Any person desiring further testi- mony in this case is at liberty to communi- cate with Mrs, Wright at her address, Norval P.O. 2 Ree Mrs. Knight says after such a grarid success, is it any wonder we recommend Dr, Chase's Ointment?
