T. McFerran cs Kinnaird Presbyterian Church Christmas is the’most loved of all festivals of the Church. Somehow we all feel that a fresh spirit ofwunderstanding and sympathy:.and brotherhood ani love is abroad in the world, Another fact is sadly true also of Christmas. At no other time of the year is commercial- ism so rampant and insistent and Santa Claus is substituted for Christ. Some years ago the dust en- crusted walls of the mosque of St. Sophia were being cleancd, after removing the accumulation of centuries, the workmen were startled and amazed to see, slow- ly emerging, the face of Christ. That Mohammedan Temple was once a Christian Cathedral, The face and figure of the, Saviour had been so encrusted with dust that they did not know it was there. Something like this is in ‘|danger of happening to, our ob- servance of Christmas. Other things, alien: to its meaning and spirit, have come into itsobser- vance until the Divine Image has been lost sight of. With this thought in mind we are to ask “What God's‘love .In every pagan faith of which we know, even in the Old Testament, man was seeking God, “trying so often vainly to find Him. When Christ was born God was revealed, not as one whom'men were seeking but one who was seeking man; all life took on a new meaning with the birth: of Jesus, His birth marked ‘the‘dawning of a better day for man, SECOND, Christmas means: to me:{hat we are immortal. WHAT DOES CHRISTMAS MEAN TO ME? It means, not on- ly that He came to a world in need, but, also, He came to me personally, There was no room for.-him in the Inn then. The tragedy, is that he finds no room in so many hearts and homes to which He comes now. Could there be any “more reasonable and ap- does Christmas mean to me?"
