A member of a women’s curling team, she says she never misses the group’s weekly meets, except when away on city business. ‘ “There hasn't been a winter go by that I haven't curled,” she said. Moore says she's been involved with this winter sport since ‘she was 22-years-old, after she and ber husband Bill graduated from — university in New Brunswick and moved to northern Quebec.’ “I started the first curling club in Shelter Bay, Gow callcd Port Cartier,” she said. “Then we moved to Baie-Commeau and we build a new curling club there.” Moore - who is a Maritimes native — has graduated with a. degree in biology and has worked for the National Research Concil following her graduation. After moving here from Quebéc, she has worked as a Castlegar librarian. She says she and her husband - helped build the new curling club located next door to the Pioncer hockey arena. “When we came here, we were ° curling on a litde piece of ice next to the old arena,” she said. Almost without exception the response to the first query was “to get stronger for sports.” Every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon Bill Pottle leads thes: novitiate fitness buffs through working. toward a Physical Education degree at Selkirk College. Having been involved in minor hockey, he began lifting weights at home when he was sixteen. i “The focus of the program, particularly for the younger kids, is to h th h their paces at the Castlegar Rec Centre. The program which was offered for’ the first time in Septeinber is beginning to take off. “We began with six kids in the 11-13 age group,” said Pottle, “And now with the stast of the second session we not only have seven new students, but all six of the first group have retumed." Heading the list of those returning is Darren Pottle.
