:J ~ 8 /3J-.- «/ ... EPP- ALK ,._., l llary At the Rossland curling club this weekend, you will be able to watch the Rossland Annual Winter Wonderland Ladies' Bonspiel. H you enjoy watching the game of curling this is for you plus something you can enjoy among beautiful decorations, all done by the members of the host club. This will definitely be one of the bigbligbts of the weekend. Then the Rouland So-fest bas quite a number of events slated for the same time period - I imagine the organizers will go all out to bold their own against the stiff competition they will get form all over. I would say the people in charge will have a program available for everyone. All in all, it should be quite a weekend around Rossland. . While on the subject of curling in the ladies' area, Beryl Davis bas passed along the results of the Orwell Cup Trophy play. Marg Rosse with her rink of Mary Vickers third, Mary Bruce second and lead Tina Drake, beat Dorothy Fines foursome of Dottie Albo third, Dorothy Lilburn second and lead Thelma Cowland. This will be followed by the play for the Hayden-Capalbo trophy and I understand when this is completed the girls go into inter-club competition in the form of a mini-spiel to wind down their season. The teams in the Retirees' Club will be getting changed for their final run about the week after nm so I'll save that until nm week. They wind down towards the end of March, the same as the ladies do. H you read what I said about the Warriors last week - bow I felt they would have to be in top form to handle the Junior Smokies in the playoffs - last Saturday night's game at the arena spelled it out loud and clear. Coming back from a 3-1 deficit, they saw their hopes of victory evaporate as Danny DiVito got a goal in the first minute of overtime to get a victory for Trail. The whole game was played with feelings on both sides running high. If this continues on through the playoff season the Rossland arena will be seeing the best crowds for quite a number of seasons. There are two balanced teams and the winner of that series could very eaisly meet the eastern winners. I got word from a source Dallas Drake will be playing on the B.C. team in the upcoming Canada Games tournament in Cape Breton, N.S. Congratulations Dallas on a job well done. And now a final note. I got word yesterday from Doug Johnson in Trail that a mutual friend bas passed on recently - a gent who used to live in Rossland in the old Catholic Church above the highway on Davis Street. Bill 1.ebroff will be remembered by quite a number of the Rossland sporting fraternity of the day. Bill liked to gamble, play the horses in Spokane and enjoyed his beer. He will be remembered. So, until nm time, then!
