Not anew house, just a new home. But it’s a very nice house, on a fine piece of prop- erty, where our Passmore con- gregation hopes one day to be able to erect a church building. And one of the things that pleases me about this place is that it is situated right at the foot of a mountain. When I look out my back windows, across the yard to the trees that mark the edge of the property, the mountain starts to rise up right there. In fact, the first bit of it is even in the yard! . Now I suppose that’s not very special around here. Just about everybody lives at the foot of a mountain, and I know many who have mountains starting in their back yards. But for someone who always wanted to live in the moun- tains, this is pretty héady stuff! There are certain advan- tages to living at the foot of a Dairy from page 22 able to producers of supply managed commodities, be- cause it rejects supply man- agement as a valid marketing tool, even though it has a min- imal effect on international 's mirror b Pulpit & Pew ; Grace Presbyterian om Church mountain. I feel that moun- tains are one of God’s most marvelous creations. Drinki them in with my eyes is real- ly a spiritual experience. And living at the foot of one almost v. We read (in Exodus 19) that three months after leaving Egypt they camped at the foot tural exporters and other agri- cultural exporting nations. This position reflects a bal- anced approach to end the crippling subsidy wars be- tween the U.S. and the EEC, which have been ruinous to all agricultural trade. “C. the positions taken by all of. the national organizations that represent supply-man- aged producers in Canada. The Canadian Broiler Hatch- ing Egg Marketing Agency, the Canadian Chicken Mar- keting Agency, the Canadian Egg Marketing Agency, the Canadian Turkey Marketing Agency and Dairy Farmers of Canada are united in their op- position to Dunkel’s approach. The working papers that Dunkel issued omit any refer- ence to Article XI.2(c))i). This Article allows the use of quan- titative restrictions when gov- ernmental measures, such as supply management, are in place. Producers of supply-man- aged commodities have worked with the federal gov- dian dairy and poul- try producers are firm in their resolve to defend the mainte- nance of supply management programs within the GATT negotiations. We reiterate our support for the position of the Canadian government to maintain and defend the in- terests of Canadian agricul- tural producers,” concluded Mr. Balcaen. ad JACK PARKIN Bus: 365-6664 “Let me help you with your fi ial needs.” develop a comprehensive and balan: SUBTOTAL TAX TOTAL + Financial Planning + Life Insurance + Disability Income + Annuities and RRIFs + RRSPs * GICs and Savings Plans + Investment Funds* + RESPs* Employee Benefit Ri ates of Mount Sinai, and lived there for some time. Paci For them it was certainly a religious experience. Here made a covenant with the people, that if they would trust and obey they would be to God “a priestly kingdom and a holy nation.” And Moses ascended the mountain representing the people before God, and there he received from God the laws for the government and reli- gious life of the people, includ- ing the Ten Commandments. But even while they were living at the foot of the moun- tain, the people broke their covenant with God, made idols to take God’s place in their lives, which were marked by self-gratification and revelry. They say history repeats it- self. This bit certainly has. Today we who live at the foot of the mountains that sur- round us live, in a very real way, in the presence of our Creator, who wants to have a covenant relationship with us also. We need to be constantly examining our response to that offered relationship, see- ing if any ideals, priorities or self-interests get in the way. Living at the foot of the mountain can be wonderful!
