sluggish performance. Of the 16 imports porting sales for June, only Honda Canada showed any- thing resembling recovery. Honda reported a 26-per-cent increase for June to 6,048 cars from the number it sold in the same month last year. ‘That puts Honda back on the road to totals comparable to 1983, but it still has some 10.6-per-cent advance in sales — 4,944 units last month ver- sus 4,468 in June 1983 — but its year-over-year totals are June — 2,815 from 3,045 a year ago. For the year to date, Nissan has delivered 14,896 cars, compared with 17,880 at this point in 1983. Volkswagen Canada re ported June sales of 2,236, up from 2,152 a year ago, and first-half totals of 13,092 ver- sus 8,573 last year. Mazda sales slipped to 1,533 last month from 1,578 in June 1963, and to 10,500 from 11,279 in comparable year-to- date figures. Labatts leads the league with 33 points on 16 wins, six losses and a tie. That's six points better than second-place Carling O'Keefe which has won 13 games and lost eight. Labatts has just two games left in the regular schedule and needs only one win or a single O'Keefe loss to sew up the O'Keefe has two games in hand, but its four remaining games are tough ones. They must face Labatts and Sandman Inn onee each and Hi Arrow twice. O'Keefe is the only team with a mathematical chance of catching Labatts. If Labatts loses both its games and O'Keefe wins all four of its games, O'Keefe would emerge on top with 34 points compared to Labatts' 33 points. Meanwhile, Sandman Inn, Thrums and Hi Arrow still have a shot at second place heading into the final week ot play. Sandman Inn has 26 points on 13 wins and nine losses, while Thrums has 23 points on 11 wins, 11 losses and a tie, and Hi Arrow has 22 points on 11 wins and 10 losses. * Wool Wagon Royals continue to hold down last spot with two points on one win and 21 losses. Elsewhere, Wayne Abietkoff of Sandman Inn is the league's top pitcher with eight wins in 11 decisions for a .727 winning percentage. Labatts’ Pete Evdokimoff is second with 12 wins and five losses, while Hi Arrow's Lawrence Halisheff is third with four wins and three losses. League batting statistics are unavailable this week, but a complete schedule of all players will be included in next week's Castlegar News. For full statistics this week, turn to Weekend Wrap-up on page B2. In action this week, Labatts had a chance to wrap-up the league title with a Wednesday night game against Thrums. But the brewery boys dropped a close 2-0 decision. Pete Evdokimoff took the loss, giving up five hits, including two by Mike Conkin. Thrums pushed across one run in the third inning and another in the fourth. Earlier in the week, Labatts dumped the Wael Wagon Royals 5-2 behind the six-hit pitching of Evdokimoff. Perry Hyson was on the mound for the Royals and went the distance, allowing eight hits. Essaunce and Tim Frick helped Labatts to the win with two hits apiece, while Randy Kirby chipped in tayo hits for the Royals. The Royals led 1-0 after the first inning, but the roof caved in in the fifth inning when Labatts scored three times to go ahead to stay. Meanwhile, O'Keefe won its two games this week — both by one run ‘ O'Keefe edged Thrums 4-3 Tuesday before nipping the Royals 3-2 Thursday. Roger Essery picked up the wins in both games, tossing a six hitter against Thrums and a five-hitter against the Royals. Ron Drazdoff took the loss for Thrums, allowing five hits two apiece to Bruce Martin and Gary Fleming. Tom Moran led Thrums with two hits. Terry Ward threw a four-hitter in the Royals’ loss to O'Keefe in which teammate Dan Taylor smashed out two hits. In other play, Sandman Inn took two games from Hi Arrow by scores of 6-3 and 7-3. Grant Sookro was on the mound in the 6-3 win, and gave up five hits — two apiece to Rod Horcoff and Ron Bartsoff. Hal Hesketh took the loss, allowing 10 hits, including three by Sheldon Sookachoff and two each by Bill Nazaroff and Steve Kanigan. One of Sookachoff's hits was a two-run home run Lawrence Halisheff was the loser in the 7-3 decision, while Wayne Abietkoff was credited with the win.
