Fatherhood has never been very easy, but in the world of today, it's for some downright impossible. I know, I know, I didn't write about the tough job us Moms have on Mothers Day but be Patient, I won't forget an hon orable mention I remember my own father when he was alive, totally dedicated to providing securi ty for his family. His role was to work and changing occupa- tions in his prime was never to enter his range of reason ing. A machinist by trade, he knew himself to be the “best” out there and was a hard worker. He believed in fidelity, Christmas and birthdays, country music, camping, bed time stories and snacks, Sun day dinners, eating everything on your plate and'no T.V. dur ing meals which were “family times” I think of him now and miss him more than ever; but I temper my nostalgic memo- ries with the knowledge that my father’s stress affected us all. He had his vices and dealt with life's problems the only way he new how. He knew his wife would stand by his side through thick or thin, be there for us children after school and in the middle of the night, bake cookies, and make popsi cles. She would coupon shop, budget and generally nurture everybody. (Honorable men tion) Today's father is faced with a very different challenge. He now-is expected to pitch in half the homemaking chores or at least “help out". He shows up for school functions and teacher interviews. He even shows up for the birth While he is expected to main tain an income, he is some- times confused about just who is supposed to be the major bréadwinner and what is his role, and may even be expect- ed to sacrifice career goals in favor of his partner's Don't get me wrong, I believe in equality of the sexes and that positive changes are happening out there.
