The Selkirk Saints hockey
team opened its 1978 Con-
ference season in an impressive
manner with two lopsided vic-
tories over the B.C.LT, Cou-
gers of ‘Burnzby over the
weekend.

In Friday night's encoun-
ter the Saints scored nine goals

: in the third period and ended

* up with a very impressive 18-1

victory, while on Saturday the

Saints scored five first-period

goals and defeated the Cougars
-4.

Friday night's hero was
Brant Wassick who scored five
goals and added five assists for
a total of 10 points. Wassick's
scoring feat fell only one point
shy of the Selkirk record for
points in one game by a player.

John Wishloff, Geoff Yule,
and newcomer Ron Guy all had

hat-tricks, with Wishioff col-

lecting six assists and Yule
four.

Also scoring for the Saints
was Doug Stewart with two
goals and four assists, and
Drew Carlson and Dan Obed-

koff with single goals. Defence- - -
man Ken Gorkoff contributed -..

five assists for the Saints.

between them. Yule and Guy

The Saints led 5-1 after one

Mondays. The program will
commence Jan. 23 at Woodiand
Park School. -

ing a choice of times with the
first class starting at 7:30 p.m.
while the second class is at 8:30
p.m.

the first time in Castlegar and

skate program has proved very
popular with only a few open-
ings left in one session.

again be offering. two dance
programs, | The creative dance
program is for children be-
tween the ages of 7 - 11 years
with emphasis being placed on
imagination and body in simple
movement.

The other dance program
is designed for girls 15 years of
age and is a means of learning
jazz movement and exercise to
music,

Both of these activities are
held in the Castlegar Primary
School with creative dance
being held Tuesdays from 4 - 6
p.m. while the Teen Movement.

For the adult there are a
number of activity-orientated
programs being offered, start-
ing this week or next,

A tremendous class for
improving that figure is ladies’

slimnastics. This program in--

volves exercise and dance
movement to music, under the
guidance of an excellent in-
structress, This class is held on
Thursday evenings at Castle-
gar Primary from 7 - 8 p.m.

Another program for ton-
ing the body is yoga—open to
men as well as women.

Vacancies still exist in both
the Thursday morning and
Monday evening sessions of
yoga,

Varied Choice

The recreation department
is offering a wide variety of
activities and it is hoped that
you will find an activity of your
choice and take the time to
participate. I am sure you will
find the time given.to such an
activity will prove worthwhile.

If you find you don't have
the time to participate in a
weekly activity, then I would
like to remind you of the public
skating opportunities that exist
at the new arena.

Whether it be Oriental
cooking or boxing, we have a
program for you. Further infor-
mation on any recreational
activity may be gained by con-
tacting the recreation office at
