C2 CASTLEGAR NEWS, Thursday, June 28,” weed 1979 Anniversaries & Milestones / Hartman 50th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. George Armstrong Mr. and Mrs, George, Armstrong of Castlegar celebrated their 60th wedding canniversary recently, at a dinner given in their honor at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Jaakko Hartman. Among guests attending were their son, Don, of Toronto, and Mr. Armstrong's sister Merle and her family, of Cranbrook, The Armstrongs were married on June 1, 1929, in Montreal, where Mr. Armstrong grew up and worked for.the Bell Telephone Sowbor’s Easity Adopted ‘Special Needs Alice went ‘into labor at 6:30 a.m. Dec. 81. She was 15, and didn't know who was the father of her child. Two weeks later, a cry was heard from the nursery of the Roberts residence, After 10 years of unsuccessful at- tempts to conceive a child, Alan and Susan Roberts had the child they'd dreamed of so often, Their child is lucky. Born into the world to a mother who was too young to care for him, he found a home in the hearts of people who cared. There are many less fortunate children British Company for over 40 years. Mrs. Armstrong, nee Ellen Don, is a native of Scotland, coming to Canada at the age of 16. Asa girl, she was an accomplished Highland Dancer, and so it was with particular pleasure that she watched, her’ grent-nieces, Dawn and Dee Buchanan of Cranbrook, as they danced foveral Scottish dances in her honor. Mr. and Mrs. eseeS came to Castlegar last year to join their daughter and her family. They have two children, Don and Sandra, and five grandchildren, Andrew and Jill Armstrong of Toronto, and Kari, Alex and Rolf Hartman of Castlegar. Silver Anniversary Party A recent surprise party, held at the home of Alex and Clarisse McKinnon, was the occasion for friends to celebrate the 25th wedding anniversary of Bill and Babs Watt of Castlegar. Following the toast proposed to the couple by their host, the Watts were presented with a china bedroom clock and sherry glasses, Guests were treated to a hot turkey dinner, followed by singing and dancing. Out-of-town guests were Mrs, McKin- non's brother and his wife, Bill and Janice Kelly of Bedford, England, who are visiting Canada for the first time; and Willie and Margaret Keacy of Quesnel. A devout Catholic mother may want her child raised as a Catholic. Whenever possible these requests are met. Placing a child with spec- ial needs in a new home is a delicate undertaking, involv- ing many factors. Once a home is proposed by Adoption Services, the social’ worker representing the child contacts the social or another, are natural parents and cannot find a home that will accept them. - New babies are easily placed. The Minister of Hu- man Resources Adoption Ser- vices helps to place as many as 30 new-born children into adoptive homes every month. Many eligible parents, “however, are not ready to take on the responsibility for - “special needs” children. The‘ term “special needs” covers a variety of children who are difficult to place with adoptive parents, including those who are no longer infants, are handicapped, have health, be- havioral or emotional prob- lems, or are siblings who need to be placed in the same home. These children come from many different backgrounds. Parents die or are declared incompetent. The Adoption Services branch does not actually place the children.
