Free expression of Christian convietions is precious and the fact that we have the opportunity and the encour. agement by courtesy of our local newspaper to advocate our beliefs, is something we take for granted in our democratic system. I'm sure we all consider Pulpit and Pew to be made up of honest, poignant dir- ectives, to the point and in- teresting. We consider it a mandate to be discharged with all reverence. For myself, it was about time for another article, and without any idea of what I was going to write I sat down at my desk determined to get at it before I was p d theme of my article was being made more valid by interruption. Where are Our Priorities? That was the title I needed. A cluttered desk or a clut- tered life calls for the same remedy. Clear away the de- bris and get down to busi ness. How much better it would have been had I kept a well disciplined desktop. Then my mind would not have been carried away when I had writing to do. How much better it is for us all to give top priority to life's most vital concerns. Of- ten it seems, the vital de cision never comes because we've been too busy playing with the trifles. The stubble has crowded out the wheat. wheat. We are all given to some extent to pr and by further delay. But first — a pileup of papers had to be removed, accumulated odds and ends, letters I had only casually haha MINISTRIES Presents Children’s Crusade and Workshop with LARRY AND MO Sponsored by Heritage Ministries, an inter- denominational Children’s Ministry, with em- sis in Child Evangelism, Sunday School Teacher training; using exciting visual aids and Puppets. Ey hing scraps kept halting my good inten- tions while I reread this or that, half hoping that soon my wife would call me for dinner and then I could blame it all on another interruption. Finally, I was down to where I could see the desktop boards and space enough to move the typewriter into place. Then I retired to the recreation room with pencil and pad to write up the first draft, a little contented that I had again beaten the ama- teur journalist's bugbear, procrastination. Suddenly I knew what I was going to write about. The press of decisions to be made, the flow of life’s bothersome interjections, and the commitment to a score of less important affairs often clutters up our day to - tommorrow: Then I was called to the door to answer the knock of a visitor. My little sorrow for another delay was sweetened by the fact that now the in some cases it is neither here nor there. But what of our relationship with God? The Bible? “I don't believe it,” they say. That's their business but they shall poo-poo it to their destruction. “I am the way, the truth and the life,” said Jesus. We can easily lose our way in the clutter of yester. day and today which is ob- seuring the truth of our eternal tomorrow. The Bible tells us to seek first the kingdom of God, and. his righteousness and all: these things shall be added: unto you. What things? The necessities of life as indicated in the verses of Matthew 6:24 to the end of the chapter which summarizes the whole issue of a Christian life. For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things but seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. Take therefore no thought for for tomorrow shall take thought for the things of itself. So the secret is to make Christ the first priority and he will supply the necessities of life. COUPLE WED IN CANDLELIGHT CEREMONY Susan Elizabeth Walton, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. John H. Walton of Castlegar, and Ian Vincent Bouchard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Bouchard of Creston, were married Dee, 28 in an evening candlelight ceremony. The combined United-Catholic service took place at St. Rita’s Catholic Chureh with both Father Herman Engberink and Rev. Ted Bristow officiating. Rudy Baff, father of the bride's friend, Angela, was the organist. Musical selections included “Canon in D” by Johann Pachelbel and the theme from Romeo and Juliet. Favorite Bible selections were read by Pat Kubos and Jean Krug. The bride, given in marriage by her parents, wore a long white satin gown, softly etched with a classic sweetheart neckline and basque waist, flowing to a scalloped hem. Designed by the bride and created by Maria DeMelo of Castlegar, the gown had full-fitted juliet sleeves tapering to handkerchief-pointed cuffs, and a cathedral train. Satin buttons ran down the back to a large satin bow The bride's headpiece was a pleated satin bandeau sprinkled with pearls carrying a layered pearl studded veil. Susan Walton carried a cascade of white roses, a single white orchid, and trailing ivy. Leona Sorenson of Hope was the maid of honor. Claire Andrews of Castlegar, Kathy McIntyre of Richmond, cousin of the bride, and Jamie Bouchard of Creston, sister of the groom, were bridesmaids. The groom's cousin, Jill MacDonald of Invermere, was the flowergirl. The maid of honor wore an ivory moire taffeta dress similar in style to the bride's gown, with a tea-length flounced skirt. She carried a hurricane candle adorned with red roses, a single white orchid and trailing ivy. The bridesmaids wore tea-length dresses of ivory moire taffeta with diagonally dropped waists and a bow on the hip. Maria DeMelo made each dress. Their hurricane candles were surrounded by roses and trailing ivy. The flower girl wore ‘a matching taffeta long dress with a wide ruby satin sash and carried an ivory lace Lasket of long stem red roses. The groom, given in marriage by his parents, wore a white tie and tails, while the bestman and groomsmen wore black Spencer coats and black trousers. The bestman was the groom's uncle, Phillip MacDonald of Saskatoon. The groomsmen were the groom's brother and the bride's two brothers; Jason Bouchard, John Walton and Bob Walton. The ringbearer, cousin of the groom, Lachlan MacDonald — of Invermere, wore tie and tails identical to the groom. The reception was held at the Fireside Place which was decorated with garlands, roses and candles. A delicious buffet was created by Anna Boel. Designed by the bride, baked by Kay Jones and iced by Maria DaCosta, the four-tiered wedding cake was Seniors’ tea well attended The Castlegar Senior Citi zen's Association Valentine party was well attended last week when program con venor LaDell Lipsett pre sented an old-time variety show. Mildred Brady started the social with O Canada and then set the theme of the afternoon by playing a med ley of love songs. Fiddlers Thelma and Curly Ratcliffe and Wally Walper with his guitar comprised an orchestra that entertained several times throughout the afternoon. Taking part in a skit — Maw’s Place — were Nels and Liz Latta, Florence Lay cock, Molly White and Sarah Lauder. The message was don't eat at Maw’s Place. Wally Walper sang Paper Doll accompanied by Virginia Walper. Betty Hostetter ac companied Joe Killough and John Dalziel for their duet, as well as for the solo by John Dalziel. Miniature ivory candles glowed from a spiral staircase circling the cake. Craig Andrews of Castlegar, the master of ceremonies, composed and proposed an eloquent epithal- amion to the bride. The groom and bride each responded. Phillip MacDonald toasted the bridesmaids, and Leona Sorenson responded. Darcy and Caroline McKin- non and Rhys Andrews entertained the guests with a “roast” to the bride as they welcomed the groom as a member of their “Green Team.” Nelly Herrera of Mexico wished the couple well (in Spanish). Members of the SHSS Grad ‘80 class circled their three brides; Lorene (Tamelin) McGregor, Sharon (Lind) Brady, and Susan (Walton) Bouchard, dancing and singing in celebration. Leona Sorenson caught the bouquet and Jeff Stewart the garter. Messages of love and good wishes were read.
