EXPIRES July 31, 1993 ——<—— = om The Slocan Valley Royals were crowned tourney champs after winging fous Sipaig ht games in the Fourth Annual P.K. Kinakin Memorial Tourney, held at Kinnaird Park during Sunfest weekend The Royals defeated Kelowna for the first-place win, and have taken home $1,500 in prize money. Royals' Coach John Rampone credited the teams’ aggressive play, which eventual- ly wore down the Kelowna Wit=~ low Inn Sharpies, which had a single point lead up until the fourth inning Winning pitcher Kevin Sutherland was voted Tourna- ment MVP and was also credit- ed with the title Best Tourney Pitcher. It was a disappointing final for Kelowna Coach Larry Mackenzie, who said weekend fatigue resulted in some ugly errors on the ball field. “We were frustrated and we ran out of gas. Basically, we go beat by a better team.” Mackenzie credited the tour- ney's organizers, Banjo's Men's Fastball Club, and said his team would be back next year. "We had a great time this weekend. Everything was really well organized." Eight teams competed’ in the cash tournament, including Castlegar Banjo's Pub; Slocan Valley Royals; Castlegar Mer- chants; Nelson Inland All Care; Nelson Athletics; Kelowna Wil- low Inn Sharpies; West Kootenay Marlins and; a combination team consisting of players from Salmo and Big O Tire in Castlegar. The Willow Inn Sharpies took home $600 in prize money, while the third place Banjo's were awarded $300.
