Third in Provincial Piay-Ofts By Tillie Verigin Castlegar. Midget Reps placed third in the provinelal play-offs held in Quesnel last week, losing only two of the seven games played, One of their losses was to the first-place Kamloops team and their other game ‘was lost to second-place Burnaby Win- ter Club. The local squad brought home the coveted Major Alan - Brueo Ritekie Memarial Cup for the Midget Championship of the Kootenays, by defeating Kimberley 7 .- 3 in a hard- fought game. This trophy was first presented in 1939 and this is the first time ever for a Castlegar team to bring it home, Our boys were a very popular bunch ‘in Quesnel. Their good behavior and fine attitude has brought them much praise from opposing teams and tournament officials. A reporter from the Ques- nel radio station had severely eri the lack of respect, foul language, and disrespect. for coaches and referees dis- played by the Burnaby Winter Club. All teams exchanged sou- venira and our team wishes to express its appreciation to our donors, namely; the Ladies’. 4 the Rothes Kloset and all of the. sponsors‘ of our reports from Quesnel, The Castlegar Midget Rep team had John Bozek as coach, Doug MacKinnon as manager and Gale MacKinnon as trainer. We are pleased to report that our manager, Doug Mac- Kinnon, who was unable to travel with the team, was well represented by his son, Mascot Stacey MacKinnon, Qne of our boys, Perry Klit, had the misfortune of becoming very ill and had surgery in Quesnel on the first day of the play-offs. He is now © home and steadily improving. ee ee Gamel Burnaby Winter Club 12, Castlegar 6. ‘Scoring for Castlegar were Bermel, Pace, Tassone (2), MacKinnon and Yule.
