Perhaps that is why, throughout history, peo- ple haye added touches of ele- j gance to their bathroom decor — making bathing a truly lux- urious experience. “The phenomenal interest in home saunas, hot tubs and whirlpools is just one indica- tion of how important the bath can be to relaxation,” explains Phone 365-2455 ‘es nce ame Care’ Our Hostess’ Gifts and Information are the Key to Your New Community 2317 - 6th Ave., Castlegar, B.C. These include a wide variety of luxu- ry faucets, whirlpools, brass and bar sinks, Alape bowls and a full line of accessories, Even some 3,600 years ago, the Queen’s bathroom in King Minos’ palace on Crete was sumtuously bedecked with a beautifully shaped and deco- rated bath, remarkably intact to this day. And the enormous Roman public baths built throughout their Empire, which were the places to socialize, featured rich bronze fittings and sculpted spouts. The practice of bathing fell into wide disuse throughout the Middle Ages, although even in houses of nobility, plain wooden tubs were often topped off with a decorative fabric canopy and-were some- times padded with linen, By the 16th century, however, Italians such as Pope Clement VII revived more elaborate decors high-lighted by fres- coed walls, marble baths and hot and cold water taps. A little later, in France, Louis XIV went so far as to install six baths in his suite in Versailles, climaxing the ven- ture with the addition of a rose-pink marble octagon, 10 feet wide and three feet deep, with gilded ceiling, cushions, drapings and a great fabric pavillion. The last was distinc- tive enough to survive three centuries, and is now situated in the Versailles orangery. By the second half of the 18th century, the bathroom proper was well in vogue with Parisian nobility. Napoleon’s CaL WEST MANUFACTURED Homes 4430 Minto Road, C: BONUS!
