PAJAMAS Wool and Chenille HOUSECOATS We have a Lay-Away Plan FOR XMAS SHOPPERS work of organizing has_ been left to a‘very few sports minded citi- zens, who to my way of thinking, have done a remarkable ‘job so far,' in getting the’ basketball school organized and underway, There is no doubt in my mind that the job has been well done nor would you good ‘readers have any doubts’ whatsoever if you ;| were to drop around to: the high school any Saturday morning or afternoon and watch the young- then, would you ‘be able to see what a wonderful job these men nave done. These same gentlemen could and if \they weren’t built the way they are, probably would sit back and let someone else do a little organizing. But being what they are they have gone ahead with plans to further the betterment of sport for this fast growing district. Not being wholly satisfied with just having a well organized bas- ketball school these men led by Dave Campbell are now working to start anothdr school for all those interested in judo, bar-bell and tumbling. Already plans have been com- pleted as far as the instructors go, Constable Kline, RCMP, has offered his services to instruct in the art of judo and John Buhr of the high school staff will help out with the tumbling class. My Apologies . It has been brought to my at- tention that I made a mistake in this column last week when at that time I stated that Rennie Mitchell had been appointed coach of the high school basket- ball team. It was also pointed out to me that to appoint an outside coach was against the policy of the school. The third point brought before me was that Mr. Mitchell had kindly agreed to at- tend the Wednesday night “prage tices and help the boys. I would like to offer my apolo- gy to the party who so kindly pointed out my error, and at the same time 1 would like to ‘point out the one factor that led‘a lot of fans as well as myself to be- lieve that Rennie was the coach If it is so that Rennie offered his services for Wednesday night, pray, tell me why he was coach- ing the team from the bench’ on Saturday, November 8? Or, was he just passing the time of day with the team? The Scene If anyone at the start of this season had told me that the four sters iri ‘action. Then and only], Commissioners’ Ponder Slow Approvals By — Health Department The Castlegar Commissioners expressed sharp criticism of the delay in approval of, building per- mits by: the district department of health, Monday evening. The service in! approval of per- mits is very slow, they explain- ed. Permits that were sent to the Department last June for appro- val, have been returned only this month. There was some discussion on ipossible remedies but no deci- sion was reached. Fire Truck Housing Problem Solved The problem of finding a home for Castlegar’s Number One fire truck, has been solved." Parks Commissioner Harry Sommers told Monday’s commis- sion meeting that an 8 ft. ex- tension to the rear of the public works garage has been completed providing space for the village’s public works truck. The Number One firefighting machine continues to be housed inthe former public works truck. stall and the new fire truck is sheltered in the fire hall, garage. The extension also provides fur- ther storage space for pipe fit- tings. rage almost ten goals a. game, I would have thought they were joking, for after all,, when teams have such net minders as John Sofiak, Dave MaClay, Gerry Fo- dey and Boomer Rodzinyak, who have proved before that they are capable men in guarding the twine, it would be pretty hard to believe. Nevertheless in games played to date, the four teams have gone out and scored almost an average of ten goals a game. . I myself can’t believe that the goal tenders in this league are as bad as all that, nor do I believe that the forwards are as good as this may make them seem. But I am quite convinced that the lea- gue on a whole are lacking in good defencemen. Futhermore I will also go on record as saying that if the blue line boys continue to play as they have~been doing, that come play off time a team from another league will be representing B.C. for the Allan Cup.
