CASTLEGAR mht Thursday, August 25, 1977 Five Fires in North Castlegar From Downed Line to a Vehicle A broken powerline, be- lieved responsible for a power failure last Tuesday, brought this week's fires ‘in North Castlegar to a total of five. Fire chief Ed Lewis said the live wire, believed to have broken loose at around 11:50 p.m, Tuesday, was found caught in a willow tree at 821 Seventh Ave. N. when the fire department arrived. The wire threw sparks in the rain and intermittently burned the tree until West Kootenay Power personnel ar- rived to repair the line, the fire chief said, Attempts to contact West Kootensy spokesman to con- “firm the broken line as the cause of the power failure were unsuccessful, Also extinguished Tuesday KAY MOTORS LTD. I find it strange indeed, that he would make this sort of statement in the first place, town of Nakusp would defy the Isw of the land in order to maintain their rights to receive Channel 4 from Spokane Wash., a station which they had re- broadcast into their homes with the fact that he was elected to ‘help make, change, and uphold the laws of this country. Even stranger, however, I wonder why he would dare to make this sort of statement publicly Charges are Pending After Truck Hits Pole Charges are pending a- gainst the owner of a semi- trailer after an accident which resulted in a; power failure extending through part of the city to Blueberry Creek Tues- day of last week, local RCMP repo Charged with having bald tires and inadequate emer- gency brakes for his vehicle, a tractor and trailer used to transport crushed cars, is Jacques Levesque, a partner in Castlegar Auto Crushers and Salvage. Police’ said the vehicle, parked at the south end of Seventh Avenue, apparently rolled 50 feet into a power pole, shearing it off at the ground. Personnel from West Koot- enay Power found the pole sheared off at ground level and pushed intact onto the shoulder of the road. The blow caused severe voltage disturbances, and had to be disconnected. Power was restored to most. parts within an hour, and full service, re- stored by midnight.
