The Grade 2 class at Woodland Park elementary school with Castlegar ski racer Felix Belczyk following interview. Kids interview Belczyk Editor's note: The following is an. interview with downhill ski racer Felix Belezyk conducted April 6 by Alexia Turner's Grade 2 class at Woodland Park elementary school. “Felix started skiing at about age two. His parents put him on skis on the road to the Castlegar Golf Course. He received all his schooling in Castlegar. “As a kid, Felix always liked sports. He liked soccer and skiing. He didn’t play baseball or hockey. He didn't like to do his homework. “Felix has skied for 24 years. He has skied on the national ski team for six years. Some of the courses that he skis on in downhill racing have really big jumps. Sometimes a skier flies 20 metres into the air after a jump. “Felix has won over 50 medals. His favorite one is the one that he won at the World Cup Race in Switzer- land. He showed us this cup. Felix says that it is a great feeling to do well and to win. “One of Felix's dreams was to be in the Olympics. A very special moment for him at the Olympics was when he walked into McMahon Stadium for the opening ceremonies. While at the Olympics, he saw three hockey games and other skiing events. “Felix has skied in many countries around the world, He has skied in the United States, Argentina, Chile, Italy, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway and New Zealand, The country, other than Canada, that he likes best is New Zealand. The people in New Zealand are very friendly and laid-back. “Felix says that his parents always encouraged him to do whatever he wanted to do. His parents are very enthusiastic skiers. “He is not married and doesn’t have a girlfriend. When he is not skiing he lives with his parents in Castlegar. When he is skiing he lives in hotels around the world. “Almond chicken, a good steak, and spaghetti are some of his favorite foods. In Europe, the skiers eat lots of pasta because pasta foods give energy. “Felix likes to windsurf in the summer. This summer he will be very busy. He will be skiing in South America the middle of May. He will be at Whistler in June. In July he will be conditioning and the next ski season begins in August. “We were very excited during our interview. Felix is a great guy!” Tina, Tommy, Donovan, Jonelle, Tamus, Janice, Mary, Tim, Serena, Cory, Cizela, Amanda, Chad, Erin, Kerwin, David, Michelle, Aaron, Nicole, Darren, Jeremy, Kevin and Alexia Turner.
